Sunday Recs: Fanwork That Rocked My Socks This Week

Yay, recommendations!

I don't often get to recommend original work, but I really adored [personal profile] hetrez's fairytale story Outside The Sky Waits Beckoning, Beckoning which is very Le Petit Prince. It's short. Read now, or save it for a gloomy day when you're tired of being a grown-up.

Recs: Due South fanwork
I have been watching Due South! My god, young Paul Gross! MY GOD, young Callum Keith Rennie! (Seriously. CK Rennie. Panty-melting.)

Obviously, this has made me want to read fic. Fortunately, lots of the folk who ended up in SGA had stints in Due South, and also fortunately, one of them was [personal profile] cesperanza. Someone on [community profile] crack_van recc'd Mangy Dog, which is as good a place as any to start. Then read everything else she wrote!

I also really loved [personal profile] petra's piece Angels In The Architecture, where Ray is a Principality and Chicago's his beat. This was wonderful, and way too short. I could happily read a lot more. (Fraser/Kowalski)

Rec: Merlin Fanwork
[personal profile] derryere wrote at least it would seem that we don't, a crazy wonderful modern-day AU where Arthur & Merlin are born as twins to Hunith and Uther, who divorce when the boys are young. Hunith takes Merlin, Uther takes Arthur, and things go awry. I feel there are a lot of places she could've gone with this that she didn't (there are hints that these are reincarnations of the eternal Merlin & the eternal Arthur, but it doesn't get played out). I'm eager to see if there will be any more in this universe. I think I should probably warn for incest? except that I can't quite believe Arthur & Merlin are really related, so it didn't actually feel that way. (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)

Rec: Supernatural Fanwork
Someone compiled all the footage of Dean Winchester kissin' people into one video and added music. Which has probably happened before? But this is also really nicely edited, and lord, but Jensen Ackles can kiss like no-one's business. ...I would like to make it my business.

Recs: Trek Fanwork
At the kink meme, someone did an excellent job of illustrating the HAWT. HAWT LIKE BURNING quality of the human-furniture kink, by writing Pavel Chekhov - Human Plate. Smokin'. Your bunk, you might want to be in it before you read this. (NC-17 liek whoa, Chekhov/everyone, aliens-make-them-do-it-but-they-kind-of-wanted-to-anyway.)

[profile] astra_sequi wrote Uranium Iodide: U and I Together, a delicious, frothy little piece where Jim learns to flirt in Spock's language. Ahaha, Jim making math innuendos. (Kirk/Spock, PG-13ish)

[personal profile] florahart wrote First Contact, which is an excellent take on X-made-them-do-it, with an appropriately inappropriate cameo by Scotty. I expect an mpreg sequel to arrive at any moment. (Not that that should keep you from reading this one!) (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17)

[personal profile] igrockspock wrote The USS Breakfast At Tiffany's, a perfectly wonderful gen Gaila-centric piece, about coming to Earth and finding her way. THIS. THIS IS WHAT FANWORK SHOULD BE. Seriously, I want to draw sparkly hearts of love all over this story.

I am really digging on [personal profile] janice_lester's work. Her kink meme fill, You Make Me Touch Your Hand For Stupid Reasons, in which Spock composes a break-up letter to Uhura, made me laugh and laugh. And then laugh more.

[personal profile] seperis is really good at writing the slow burn. Also, really good at writing the slow, totally-fucked-up burn. And I am very very grateful she's turned her talents to Star Trek Reboot. Her newest, Repeat Offender, starts with Jim, on Earth on leave... and in jail, and Spock, there to bail him out & patch him up. (NC-17, Kirk/Spock first-time, please read her warnings before plunging in)

Recs: White Collar fanwork
[personal profile] kitsjay wrote Charmed, I'm Sure, which clinches it: Neal Caffrey is my forever TV boyfriend. (Gen)

[personal profile] talitha78's Neal-centric vid, Rock Star is fantastic. (But then again, all her work is fantastic. She's responsible for the excellent Poker Face Trek Reboot vid, which is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.)

Awesome! Done before 9PM! This deserves some cookies.
christycorr: Uther (Merlin)/Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) ((y))

Damn you for posting this right as I was seconds away from closing my computer and going to bed. Damn you. Alas, I shall now have to resign myself to being late to uni tomorrow—and tackle the Trekfic. :D

Thanks for posting! ♥

Due South! It's my backwards fandom. I read the fic first, and then had to see the show. I refused to watch it in the 90s when it originally aired. I don't know if you listen to podfic, but a ton of what's out there is DS.

I think it was two (three?) years ago when I discovered it, and lots of the links at crack_van were broken, but I found nearly all of them at the Wayback Machine.

Also, if you like fan-run cons, and live U.S.-ish see (bitchinparty" and muskratjamboree), which are multi-fannish, but grew out of DS fandom.

E: Because I totally meant to use a DS icon & then didn't.
