OKAY.

I DON'T GET IT. SOMEONE EXPLAIN IT PLS.

What the hell is this the weird vertical line (that I somehow can't reproduce here) and why are people suddenly commenting with it everywhere?

Explain? Someone?

I conjecture that it means "total love," but I don't know why a vertical line possibly = total love.

Ah, I get that. I've decided that people are doing the ampersand-heart-semicolon, and my computer is translating it as a vertical line instead of a heart. Like, a coding language thing? I think.

Anyway, that's my theory. It drove me nuts for a while, but now I just shrug and click on, lol.

Apparently, mine does too.

It's not that I care if I don't understand what the kids are saying these days, it's just that using a line to comment was... weird.

Are you seeing it on LJ itself or just in your emailed notifications? Because sometimes when people make a heart - ♥ - in a comment, once it's emailed to me, it shows up as a vertical line.

Oh!

It _is_ a heart -- I tried copying and pasting it, and it magically turned from a line into a heart.

Well, that makes much more sense. I don't know why my browser (it's on LJ itself that I was seeing the lines) was interpreting it like that, but now I know what it is.

Ta!

I suspect it means your computer has stopped reproducing the character for "and hearts semicolon" which produces a heart or, if your computer can't hack it, a vertical line, like so:
