Aid me, o flist!

I have a membership to zip.ca! Is it necessary to watch SG-1 before embarking on SGA? Also, David Thewlis movies! What do I rent, keeping in mind that I've already seen Besieged and Total Eclipse?

I don't think that SG1 is necessary for SGA. Basically, all you have to know is that 1) there are Stargates that let people travel to other planets through wormholes 2) the US military has a program of people traveling through them (in SGA that changes to a multi-country program and 3) a bunch of people way back when built the Stargate system - they're called the Ancients.

Other than that, you're pretty much good to go. And yeah, there are some SG1 crossovers/things that are assumed to be known, but I think they tried to sell SGA as standalone, to bring new viewers into the franchise. And I think the 2-hour movie (The Rising) really sets up the SGA 'verse well.
