How is no-one posting about Buffy Season 8 yet?

The first comic is out today, and it is made of AWESOME.

First, Joss totally redeems that awful Angel ep where Angel & Spike go to find Buffy in Rome. Second, Buffy's new watcher rocks with total rockingness (three guesses which *coughone-eyedcough* man has the role). Third, all the set-ups for Things Wot Will Happen are excellent (Dawn side-story! Willow side-story! Giles side-story!), and the art is rocking. And the whole thing sounds authentically Buffy-esque, and I love it. (Oh! And fourth, there is an EXCELLENT new villain.)

I love it, and y'all need to go get one from your local comic book store.

ITA. And this from a woman who HATED and LOATHED comic books. (A condition not helped by the Firefly comics, it has to be said!)

I was pretty "meh" about the Firefly comics, too. I think it was mostly because it was so negligible to canon. It would have been great if they'd decided to do post-movie comics, but oh well. Wasn't to be.

do they do that thing I HATE in TV/movie comics where the artists fall all over themselves making the characters look like the actors? Obviously they need to be identifiable and consistently portrayed in the context of the whole story, but it bugs me when it looks like the comic's been traced off the tv, ya know?

I didn't feel that way about it -- they all looked like themselves, but they were also recognizably comic'd. Buffy has a breath of manga about her.

The sheer joy of having more canon!Buffy in my life kind of outweighed everything else, though. :-) (Joss writes well!)
