This is what happens when you get famous, Colin. Random fans go find your drama school's facebook page and pillage shamelessly.

Veeeery interesting.
Feb. 28th, 2009 12:15 amTrawling through f-of-flists today led me to this: Britney's management team is running a "contest" for fans to submit fanfiction about Britney, which will be used to make a music video. [The call for entries is here]
Which might seem awesome if you're 13 and unlikely to read the fine print... although it's conveniently on the same page.
tacky_tramp breaks down the fail:
This sounds a lot like, "Hey, Brit's unavailable for a video right now, and we're out of ideas, so howzabout you guys give us your ideas for free and let us use them to create a video that will make Brit (and us, tee hee) some cash! And we'll call it 'fanfic' because that's hot with the kids these days! This is awesome, right? :D? :D?"
I am not susceptible to this nonsense because a)I am not 13, b)I don't care about Britney and c)I understand intellectual property distinctions. But the people who are going to enter are people who haven't paid attention, and thus are _going to get screwed_.
I would suspect FanLib of involvement, but then they would be branding it too, and I see none of that.
(Has FanLib gone belly up yet? I don't want to click over to check, because I will not give them hit points. But does anyone know?)

Run over to
arefadedaway's journal RIGHT NOW to watch her abso-bloodly-lutely fantastic vid, One Girl Revolution (make that 155 girls?), an absolutely stunning, triumphant, joyful tribute to the women of fandom.
WOW. Awesome chicks FTW indeed!
(And does anyone have that song and would be willing to share?)
Thanks to
musesfool for pointing it out!
