Unshelved continues to be made of awesome AND of fannishness!

The whole "Dewey gives Tamara a Jayne hat & hilarity ensues" story, so far:

One
Two
Three
Four

(Is it true that a group of Browncoats are now called "a closet"? Is anyone still keeping up w/ that fandom and knows? [livejournal.com profile] skripka, [livejournal.com profile] dirty_diana and [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl, I'm looking at you.)

Hahahah, I have no idea. I never considered myself to be a 'browncoat' (omg, is that fandom heresy? Oh well).

I dunno. I didn't either. After a display of unnecessary trivia knowledge (on my part), someone once asked, grinning, if I was, and I couldn't back-peddle fast enough. I was ashamed to be back-peddling, but my fannishness is private. (Although I do own a Blue Sun tshirt.)

Really? I haven't, so much. Although I did kind of recuse myself from the whole shebang after the movie was no longer in theatres, so I'm not so much up on things.

I've heard that a lot of the browncoats don't like slash or fanfic, or stuff like that. Then again, I've never met a non-fandom browncoat, so who knows.

Yes, well, there are a lot of straight white men in that fandom. Weird, huh? :-)

By them being there? I meant it was weird that there's a massive online fannish community not primarily made up of women.

My bias, you see, is showing.

I was making a lame joke! I wasn't really confused!

In one way, it does seem weird to me that there would be such a huge following of Firefly fans that are guys who have nothing to do with fanfic fandom. On the other hand, it doesn't seem so weird. But judging from what I've heard about some of the Browncoat groups out there, I have a feeling I wouldn't belong.

I have never heard that term, but as you and [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl were sort of talking about there's fandom browncoats (them as has ljs/writes fic, etc.) and then there's the meetup browncoats (them as has movie screenings, conventions and cruises). I only cross paths with the latter group occasionally; they tend to hang out on message boards online (and they're men! WTF?). I have no idea if they use that term, but around these parts? No. Unless I decide that I like it, in which case, I'm going to make everyone else start using it.

Very sensible. :-) That was my response to "chillax" and "bromance," also.

Never heard of such, nor would I say I'm keeping up.

I'd be willing to go with a "suede of browncoats," because there would be a certain textural interest and, well, sensuality to it. Plus, it'd be more distinctive. :)
