I just managed to crash my iMac, while my iPod was attached.
Now, my computer recognizes my iPod (the icon shows up on the desktop; iTunes launches as soon as I connect the iPod), but iTunes won't (it won't appear in the source list).
Also, it seems the crash wiped the iPod memory... although it still says that the memory is half full. (I just can't access any of the music.)
HALP.
I've tried doing the following:
To my iPod:
1. Disconnected it from my computer, turned it off, turned it back on, connected it again
2. Slid the hold button over and back, reset it
3. Put it in Disk Mode, connected it, disconnected it, turned it off, turned it on, reconnected it
To my iMac (which is running Mac OSX 10.2.8, because it's a G3 iMac that can't handle much else):
1. Restarted it.
2. Created a test user account, connected my iPod, launched iTunes from within the test user account
3. Deleted the com.apple.ipod.plist file in /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/
4. Tried (unsuccessfully, I think) to use the Terminal to delete iTunes (as per this article)
5. Deleted itunes3.pkg from Library/Receipts (which didn't seem to do anything), then reinstalled iTunes 3
6. Downloaded & installed iTunes 4.0.1
7. Downloaded & installed iTunes 4.2
Anyone have any other ideas? I could probably keep trying newer versions of iTunes, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Also, there's a very high-pitched noise coming from my iPod when it's on. It's barely audible, but it's there.
