Surfing my del.icio.us network led me to Thamiris' amazing SV bondage fic, Boxed. I haven't ever read SV fic before, and now I want to, because gosh, Lex is a delicious villain/protagonist/sexx0r-thing.

Is there a primer somewhere, a SV fiction for newbies list? I want more, people!

I was trying to find a link - but couldn't - to emeraldsedai's excellent "The Things I Cannot Change" which is a (complete) FF/SV crossover pairing Simon and Lex. I can't think of any recs sets offhand, but I used to be active in SV fandom (as a reader, not a writer), and I know who was writing the great fic back when I was there. Most of them have since moved on to new fandoms themselves, but still maintain links to their old fic. Smallville Slash Archive (http://smallville.slashdom.net) is a terrific resource, an auto-upload archive that's searchable. Of course, there's a huge amount of dreck there, but almost all of the good fic is archived there, so you can do a search by an author name and not have to wade through a thousand weepy mpregs to get to the good stuff.

thamiris wrote a bunch of other stories in SV after "Boxed", many of which are excellent. Sniffle. musesfool never wrote much in SV, but she does a lot of recs, and tends to be all organised with them, so it'd be worth checking out her LJ. seperis wrote wonderful stories (available on the SSA, her own site,a nd probably LJ as well, but at the archive she's called Jenn), as did thete1 (hers tend to be kind of dark, but very well written), liviapenn, scribblinlenore (the only one who's still writing SV fic that I can think of), rageprufrock, and a whole bunch of others. I'm embarrassed to be leaving out so many names, but I'm exhausted and my brain is fried. Suffice it to say that not appearing in the above paragraph doesn't mean an SV ficcer wasn't excellent, just that I either can't remember their LJ handle or can't remember how to spell it). The fic was always better than the show, which was one reason I stuck with the show so long, because there were such talented writers. In the fandom, not on the staff.

Off the top of my head, two stories I'd say you should absolutely read even if you have no time to read anything else are liviapenn's Demarcation (http://www.smallville.slashdom.net/archive/5/demarcation.html) and Koi's Mercy (http://www.smallville.slashdom.net/archive/21/mercy.html). Those should keep you going for a little while.

And if you want an epic, try lanning's Identical series (http://lanning.slashdom.net/). It's massive, and as of yet unfinished, but each story in the series is more or less self-contained. And they contain one of the greatest original character in the history of fanfic, Eli Cohen. Visualise someone who looks like Ben Kingsley in a very grumpy mood.

I've blazed through all of thamiris's fic, and tried to use her rec-list, which is, unfortunately, mostly broken and will now never be fixed. *sigh*

And it's funny, about the rest of the names on your list, because they're writers whose other work I adore -- Pru's SGA stories are some of the best available -- but who I hadn't read SV fic from because, well, I didn't care then. Now, I suppose, I need to go back and check all my beloved writers to see if I'm missing fic that I'm now prepared to read.

I've been following several of these writers since their X-Men movieverse days back in 2000-2001, and discovered new fandoms because of them. Never would've watched SV without them, never would've watched Atlantis (I never got into SG-1, so I had no intention of watching the spinoff). The time I've wasted thanks to them! (shakes fist in impotent fury)

Have tried -- mostly, if you change the .com part of the SSA web address to .net, the stories show up, but there are people who only posted on dreamjournal, or had website domains that expired and don't seem to have moved to LJ.
