This is apropos of nothing fannish, but I am in mad love and wanted to share.

Ladies of the flist, I have discovered the Diva Cup. It took me a while to actually go buy one, since I am skinflinty with money, but now I have. And holy Jebus, I should've done it years ago. I mean it. So should you all!

This is why it's made of awesome:

1. No worrying about toxic shock syndrome. I mean, I didn't actually worry, but now I don't even have to think about it. The DC is made from medical-grade silicone, so it doesn't absorb anything, and so there isn't any way for bacteria build-up to happen.

2. Let me repeat that - it doesn't absorb anything, which means no feeling of awfully, cottony dryness in yer cooch.

3. No bleached cotton (and therefore chemical bleaching products) are coming into contact with yer cooch, either. Apparently concerns have been raised.

4. By using one, people are no longer making mad money off of the fact that you have a womb. I used to get pissed right the hell off that I had to spend $10-ish per month because I was a woman. I also got pissed off at all the awful euphemisms for "pads and tampons" that stores use ("female hygiene products" being the worst -- being a woman doesn't make me dirty!), and now I don't have to pay any attention to them.

5. It lasts forever, and therefore is the most environmentally-friendly menstrual product eva.

6. It has a year-long, money back guarantee.

I held off on buying one because I was worried about the yech factor -- changing it at work? Also, what about leaks? I'm only writing with one week of evidence, but so far, no leaks at all -- less, even, than with tampons, and because it can hold 3-4 ounces of liquid (and the typical period only produces 3 ounces in total), you really only have to change it twice a day.
You could probably get away with once a day, if you wanted to.

Also, easy to put in.

So. I totally advocate buying one. It ran me about $45 (Canadian), but considering that's about 5 months worth of tampons, and I have about 15 more years of menstruation, it's more than worth it. The only caveat is that the blushing and virginal might find it difficult to use. (Well, really just the virginal.) Again, though, year-long money back guarantee.

Fannish conversation now resuming.
