The "I hate you quantum mechanics, I hate you" edition.

(No quantum mechanics were hurt in the making of this post.)

BoingBoing posted this YouTube vid of an elephant giving birth at a zoo in Bali, and it is AMAZING. (I'd embed the vid directly, but YouTube's being annoying and saying only those over 18 can watch elephant births.)

I love that someone decided what the world needed was a robotic pancake picker:

(here on YouTube if you can't see the embed!)

Leila @ Bookshelves of Doom posted the vid for "Informer" a few weeks ago, and it's been earworming me ever since. Did you know Snow's Canadian? and from Etobicoke, nonetheless?

(link here on YouTube if you can't see the embed, and lyrics here, if you're interested)

Raiders of the Lost Ark as a 1951 adventure movie!

Most of us will never get to eat at El Bulli, considered possibly the greatest restaurant in the world, but at least we can experience it vicariously! (not embedding, because this is a combination of text, comics & vids)

Sure, it's exciting to make a champagne cork pop, but isn't it more exciting to saber-open the bottle? [BoingBoing]

Got a fruit tree in the backyard? Encase the growing fruit into molds, and you can turn them into awesome shapes. (Post is in Spanish, but the pictures are the important thing.)

Sure, making novelty desserts that look like main-courses is a silly way to prepare food, but don't these cookie dough & ice-cream versions of gyoza (Japanese dumplings) look delicious? [via Evil Mad Scientist]

Or, you could just make these Spike Jonze approved cupcakes.

This video tour of the deepest cave in the US is amazing (here on YouTube, if you can't see the embed):

I am beyond overjoyed that the entire run of Life Magazine as a weekly is now archived on Google Books. Seriously, seriously cool.

Penelope Trunk (I heart her!) is writing a series of great posts on having Asperger's and functioning at work.

You know, Google regularly blows my mind.

They Might Be Giants have a new kids' CD called Here Comes Science!. I am charmed.

A group of Swedish 6th graders asks Toys'R'Us to quit it with the gender discrimination. Sweden! How are you so awesome?

I have bookstore customers with trenchcoats, but none of them have ever done this. [via Not Always Right]

Believe it or not, Randy Bachman wore this onstage. Brass ones, Randy Bachman, you has them. ...Possibly brass ones from Guatemala.

This bookstore in the Netherlands, converted out of a church, is incredible.

Tony Head's taking part in a charity album! by which I mean "album of music" and also "sing to me, Giles". [via Whedonesque

Why Jim & Pam's Wedding Is Good For TV Comedy, an article by Alan Sepinwell at the New Jersey news aggregate. I applaud this article! I always hate it when romance on teevee gets dragged out and becomes A Big Deal and we never get to see any of the making-it-work parts of relationships. I hate this equally in comedy and drama, but Alan talks about it specifically in comedy, and I enjoy what he has to say.

Someone totally awesome named Jack wrote an article about why the OTW is important for LGBT culture, because he wants to help drum up donations. I want to high-five Jack. [via The New Gay]

For those of you writing/reading/watching Torchwood, Garic, a Welsh linguist, has put together a couple of posts on dumb things people say about the Welsh language. I'm certain he didn't mean for his blog entries to help with fic trouble-shooting, but hey, who ever has that foresight about research they post, anyway?

Automatic Lifestyle Dispenser asks the all-important question, "What would the kid's merchandising for Apocalypse Now look like?" Their answer: trading cards.
