Flist & Circle (particularly those of you in the US), same-sex marriage advocates in Maine need your help. A law making same-sex marriage legal has been wending its way through the process, and now there's a confusingly-worded citizen vote on it.

Do what you can! Even if that's just reblogging it. Prop 8 was a disaster; this doesn't have to be.

I'm going to re-post what I said over on LJ, just for anybody who reads here rather than on LJ. Again, thank you so much for posting.

For some background for anybody reading, what happened was that the Maine state legislature passed a law legalizing gay marriage back in April or May, but Maine has a people's referendum process and opponents gathered enough dissenting signatures to put the issue on the ballot, hoping for a people's veto, in November. So what we're doing now is trying to defeat a public veto of LD1020, which is the law that legalized gay marriage.

We need all the help and all the exposure we can get; the campaign has been very big news here, but I've heard it's very much under the radar on a national/international level. Despite the fact that Maine is tiny, this is a big-ass deal; it's the first time that gay marriage has been put before a public vote in the United States.
