merrilyEarly reports (unconfirmed) say that Joanna Russ is dead. Earlier reports from 2 days ago had her admitted to a hospice after a series of strokes.
Does anyone know anything definitive?
I love Russ' writing. In many ways, she shaped my thinking as a feminist academic and a feminist SF/F fan. Her book, How to Suppress Women's Writing
,
electrified me. (And this essay bycupidsbow, applying Russ' book to fanfiction, is exceptional.)
In sum, she was a fabulous mind, and I'm very sorry if she's gone.
