Has anyone lived in an intentional community before, and can speak to upsides & downsides?

It's one of three housing options on my plate right now, but it's been a while since I lived with more than two other people and I'm not so sure about living with three & their partners & their pets.

It's cheap, though; they've given me a firm offer; it's around the corner from where I am now; they've got a vegetable garden. And I can stay as long as I like. All good things.

Thoughts, oh those with multiple housemates?

What kind of setup would it be? Sharing a house? That's gotta be a pretty damn big house. I'm living in an average sized apartment with five other people, but I think living with what are essentially family units has got to be different.

I've done the apartment w/ five people thing, too, I'm just. Hm. Used to the quiet of being by myself, worried that I wouldn't be able to move back into a ready-made family space. (Also, there were only a handful of books visible -- one case in the living room, none in three of the bedrooms, which I find perhaps not the best sign.)

Yes, a house - two floors & a basement. Bedrooms are all on the 2nd floor.

I saw two other places today I adored, but I am not at all sure they'll be offered to me. Am going to see one tomorrow afternoon around the corner from you. Fingers are crossed.
