"Ringwraith" by Anato FinnstarkImmediately, though everything else remained as before, dim and dark, the shapes became terribly clear. He was able to see beneath their black wrappings. There were five tall figures: two standing on the lip of the dell, three advancing. In their white faces burned keen and merciless eyes; under their mantles were long grey robes; upon their grey hairs were helms of

Seder was excellent; we actually got all the way through the Haggadah, which I don't think I've ever done before (usually after Shulchan Oreich we just hang out) so it was really nice to get to Miriam and Elijah's cups, and we had some good conversations and I'm so glad this tradition is something I have in my life now. I served snacks of popcorn, crudités with hummus and ranch, steamed shrimp, olives, and pickled red onion and pickled jalapenos; the baked brie with quince jam was a good idea that didn't work great in execution (tiny cast iron did not retain heat and the cheese was hard to put on the matzah, alas. But the vegetarian shepherd's pie and green beans and rhubarb-raspberry crisp were all delicious and doing the mango salsa for charoset is a great choice I am doing forever.

It is still cold and I am extremely tired of it. I am sick of my winter wardrobe. I yearn to drop off my winter coat at the dry-cleaner's and pack it away in storage. When????

The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway headed to Tokyo for the premiere and we’re afraid we have some bad news to report. It would appear that they’re going to dress in clown fashion for this tour. Brace yourself for the worst thing Mary Louise Streep has ever worn in public:

MERYL STREEP IN CHANEL

No, ma’am. Absolutely not. Everything about this look is horrifying, but you should have heard the gasps when we saw the shots with the raised arm. As if that print wasn’t ugly enough or that fringe wasn’t overwhelming her visually, they had to go and add an eye-searing color to the back of it for no reason. Absolutely nothing about this look appeals and this is what happens when people who aren’t much into fashion try to do a high-fashion look. They think it has to be outrageous and impractical because that’s what they think fashion is. Her stylist should know better. The shoes are not the worst part, but they’re a terrible choice.

ANNE HATHAWAY IN VALENTINO COUTURE

CLOWN. That skirt is terrible and the idea of pairing it with those Rockstuds is so self-evidently awful that we’re afraid these two have gotten themselves into some sort of Zoolander-esque fashion-mocking vibe and honestly, if that’s how they’re going to promote this thing, it doesn’t speak well of their understanding of the original’s appeal.

Nora Restaurant – London, UK

It’s TUESDAY and the world is once again on fire. Let’s all huddle together in a soothingly fabulous LOunge with flattering lighting, where the wait staff is gorgeous, nothing has any calories, and you can drink all day without getting a headache. Share the fantasy, darlings.

‘It’s the emotional IQ’: Unpacking the unique hotness of musicians
From Franz Liszt to Cameron Winter, male musicians have always occupied a special category of attractiveness, one that relies on something more atmospheric and difficult to pin down than just conventional good looks

Since the 1840s, when Hungarian composer Franz Liszt caused hysteria with his performances – women would fight over his gloves and locks of hair, wear his portrait on brooches, and faint in his presence – musicians have inspired admiration and devotion. Part of this comes from the ‘halo effect’ of talent, where competence, confidence and passion in a high-emotion activity, such as singing, playing the bass or even just the storytelling of music, spills over into perceived attractiveness.

If You Love ‘The Pitt’, These Are The 7 Best Thrilling Medical Dramas To Watch Next
We’ve sorted your next adrenaline fix.

As a society who insists on jam-packing social calendars and wearing the scars of burnout like a badge of honour, it would be natural to assume that what our nervous system seeks, is stabilising. Yet between the late-night work emails and Tik Tok doom scrolling, the antidote we’re actually all turning to is more… adrenaline?
More specifically, the kind of high-stakes stress that comes from a medical drama. It seems we can’t get enough of them – whether that’s as a distraction from the mundanity of our daily lives, or a reminder that, really, it could be worse. Perhaps it’s simply the doctor’s scrubs that do it for you.

Move Over Sweet Perfumes, These 7 Viral Pistachio Fragrances Are Trending For Spring
It’s the understated way to embrace gourmand scents.

As someone who naturally gravitates towards musky, masculine-leaning scents, gourmands are typically my least favourite types of fragrances. However, one rising note is making me something of a convert: pistachio.
Instead of skewing overtly sweet (and at times cloying), the nutty note reads creamy, buttery, and slightly salty, giving it a sophisticated edge over its classically sugary counterparts. It’s warm and inviting yet feels grown-up and elevated. It’s the olfactory equivalent of a cashmere layer, if you will, rather than that well-worn pullover you’ve had for ages. And as a true chameleon, pistachio blends effortlessly across the fragrance spectrum, leaning indulgent alongside rich vanillas and caramels, romantic when paired with bright florals, and more savoury with deep woods and spices.

All Roads Lead to These 24 Classic Roman Recipes
From cacio e pepe to crisp fried artichokes, these hallmarks of Rome’s cuisine bring a taste of the trattoria to your home.

Like many thousands of college students before me, I too studied abroad in Italy. Sometimes the most obvious choice is still the best one, and I am so glad I followed the well-trod road to Rome, the country’s capital and largest city. For all of its spectacularly overrun tourist quarters, Rome is simply much too big to be defined solely by the parade of visitors who have passed through it for millennia. There are dozens of humble hostarie (to use a common spelling in Rome for osterie) for every restaurant celebrated in English-language press where the waitstaff are the only ones who seem to be speaking Italian.

How Understanding Your Astrological ‘Midheaven Sign’ Could Help You Succeed At Work
It says so much.

But it’s not just celestial bodies; your birth chart also shows several important points in the sky. One of them is your Midheaven sign. Your Midheaven sign isn’t a physical object in the way a planet like Saturn or Mercury is. Also called your Medium Coeli or MC, it’s found at the cusp of your 10th House in your birth chart. Here’s what it might tell you about your ideal career path, strengths and other traits.

These Documentary Filmmakers Set Out to Make an Honest Film About BTS—and Got More Than They’d Hoped For
Director Bao Nguyen and coproducer Jane Cha Cutler talk to Vanity Fair about the making of their new documentary, BTS: The Return.

In one of the most highly anticipated comebacks in recent memory, global superstar group BTS has surged back into the spotlight after a nearly four-year hiatus. The K-pop boy band’s long-awaited return, following its members’ military service, has dominated news headlines—while its fans, known as ARMY, have once again set social media ablaze. The septet’s latest album, Arirang, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with lead single “Swim” topping the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release.
But BTS’s return to the pinnacle of pop wasn’t easy, as revealed in the new documentary BTS: The Return. Directed by Bao Nguyen (Be Water, The Greatest Night in Pop) and produced by This Machine, Hybe, and East Films, the 93-minute film follows members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook as they gather in a Los Angeles studio to work on their comeback album, Arirang. The result is a raw, intimate portrait of their creative process—and the doubts and pressures that come with global fame as they attempt to define the next chapter of their career.

Short on Time? These Spring Co-Ords Will Make Everyday Style Effortless
These are the best sets to shop now and wear everywhere—from work to weekends and even the beach

“Easy outfits” is almost always a top search term on Pinterest and Google—proof that, while fashion can be incredibly fun, most days we simply want to get out of the door looking great with minimal effort. Enter Spring co-ords: the secret to easy dressing.
The beauty of a matching set lies in the minimal thought required to style it, and recent seasons prove that co-ord sets now span far more than simple top and trouser combinations.

Chess Legend Magnus Carlsen Lost to Upstart Hans Niemann—Then All Hell Broke Loose
In an excerpt from his new book, Checkmate: Genius, Lies, Ambition, and the Biggest Scandal in Chess, author Ben Mezrich explores every angle of the match where Niemann improbably beat Carlsen, leading Carlsen to imply that Niemann had cheated—and inspiring one enterprising internet troll to speculate about the, ahem, unorthodox methods Niemann could have used to do so.

I Tried TikTok’s Viral Scandinavian Sleep Method for a Week—and I’ll Never Look Back
TikTok was right about this one.

If you’ve been scrolling through sleep hacks on TikTok, you’ve probably seen the Scandinavian sleep method trending.
A couple of years ago, a Scandinavian TikToker took to the social media platform to show how she combats duvet hogging with her partner – and the answer promises to help you have the best night’s sleep ever.
Cecilia Blomdahl shared a video of how she and her partner sleep – where, instead of just one duvet or cover on their double bed, the couple has one duvet each.

We Tasted 10 Jarred Pestos — the Best Came From a Surprising Place
Our favorite pesto is bright, savory, and versatile.

Nothing perks up a dish quite like pesto. Its uses go far beyond pasta: The vivid, basil-packed sauce is just as good swiped onto a caprese sandwich, drizzled over roasted potatoes, or swirled into whipped ricotta for an easy party dip. Homemade pesto is extremely simple to make, but there’s still a time and place for a quality store-bought version.

The Ultimate Wedding Beauty Timeline: Exactly What To Book (And When) For The Perfect Big Day
Month-by-month bridal beauty plan

When it comes to weddings, the question we get asked most as beauty editors is when to book in for all the treatments ahead of the big day. Planning a wedding is stressful and overwhelming as it is, without the worry of what comes first: the spray tan or the manicure?
And so to alleviate some of that unnecessary angst, consider this your go-to wedding beauty timeline. It tells you when to book your Botox, why you should consider a wedding nail trial and how much time should be dedicated to teeth whitening.

These Less-Crowded French Wine Regions Are Extraordinary With Storybook Scenery
Find world-class wines on France’s eastern border.

France’s most famous wine regions — Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne — are must-visits for any wine lover, but they’re not remotely the only wine regions worth visiting in France. The country is carpeted with grape vines, from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the chalky soils of Champagne, and some of the best places to visit aren’t necessarily the usual suspects. Particularly consider two that lie along the country’s eastern border: Alsace and Jura. Both are full of stunning scenery, great restaurants, and world-class wines.

Motherhood Made Me Confront My Deepest Fear: Myself
I was raised to expect danger everywhere. Teaching my children to embrace the world meant unlearning everything I knew.

As a child, I lived next door to a playground that I was never allowed to play in. I watched other kids run around in it after school through the window while I played librarian and scullery maid inside, alone. I tried a few times to make friends with the children in the house opposite, but I was never allowed to cross the fence to play with them either. In fairness to my parents, it was the notorious 1980s in New York City, and at night the playground hosted parties, leaving broken bottles and drug paraphernalia behind to be found in the morning. The house next door, where several women lived with many children but only one man who came and went, was, to put it diplomatically, not an ideal playdate spot. My parents and extended family were also World War II refugees who viewed the world as a dangerous place by default. The legacy of their war trauma compounded the genetic hardwiring for anxiety they had passed on to me.

Groom Outfit Ideas for a Perfectly Tailored Wedding
Groom outfit ideas can range from classic menswear pieces to bold, custom options. It’s important to find styles that fit the formality of your wedding, your body’s unique shape, and your personal style.
Over the past few decades, groom outfit ideas were often limited to traditional suiting options ranging from tuxedos to classic, tailored suits. However, menswear rules are fast changing—and many to-be-weds are pushing the boundaries when it comes to their wedding wardrobe. Dressing up in the perfect ensemble that fits their personality and style is now a major part of a groom’s wedding day checklist.

The Best Places to Buy Wallpaper, According to Interior Designers
If your walls could talk, they might reveal they’re desperate for some excitement. When it comes to furnishing a home, people generally focus on the basics first—a plush rug, a soft-yet-sturdy sofa, a set of cozy sheets—with good reason. But often, this means that by the time they finally divert their attention to styling out areas like a blank wall, decision fatigue has taken over; they may settle for a few hung photos and a quick lick of neutral paint. However, if you have a little time, a few panels of wallpaper can work wonders.

Kanye West Offers to Meet U.K. Jewish Community as Wireless Festival Backlash Grows
Kanye West has offered to meet members of the Jewish community in the U.K. following the furore over his headline booking at this year’s Wireless Festival, as sponsors continued to flee and politicians maintained their pressure on the government to bar his entry.
In a statement obtained by Variety, the rapper – who also goes by Ye – said he had been “following the conversation around Wireless and want to address it directly.” He said his “only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music,” and offered to meet community members in person “to listen,” adding: “I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

Couple Sets Out to Cook 365 Recipes Together. After Their 259th, Her World Came ‘Crashing Down’
Laura and her husband set out to cook all 365 recipes in a cookbook, with the promise that he would take her anywhere in the world for dinner when they were done

In 2015, Laura’s then-boyfriend gifted her a copy of Kate McMillan’s Healthy Dish of the Day cookbook for Christmas.
Inside the front cover, he wrote a note to her, detailing how, for the next however many years it took, the couple would embark on a journey of cooking the recipe listed in the book under each date.
So, on March 4, the couple would cook the recipe listed under the entry for that day, and on July 13, the same thing. However, each recipe, he specified, could only be cooked on that specific day. So if the couple missed the Aug. 6 entry, or didn’t feel like cooking it that night, they would have to wait until the next year.

CBS reveals replacement for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert
The “Late Show” franchise will end after more than three decades in May.

As The Late Show With Stephen Colbert nears its end, CBS is preparing for its successor.

What’s all the drama behind Robert Pattinson and Zendaya’s The Drama?
From the filmmaker’s personal life to his movie’s big twist, here’s why everyone’s talking about A24’s latest controversial release.

This article contains spoilers about The Drama.
A24’s latest is living up to its title.
The Drama stars Robert Pattinson and Zendaya as Charlie and Emma, a young couple whose lives and upcoming wedding are thrown into disarray when the latter drunkenly reveals a disturbing secret from her past. Goaded into making the revelation during an ill-advised game of “What’s the Worst Thing You’ve Ever Done?” with friends, the admission forces her fiancé to reconsider their entire relationship, begging questions like: How well do we really know those closest to us? And can love ever be truly unconditional?
With the movie now in theaters, Emma’s big secret is officially out in the open, and, as many who saw the movie in advance of its release have guessed, it’s already stirring controversy.

How to Deep Clean Your Vacuum for Better Suction and Performance
Keep your vacuum working at optimal efficiency with these expert care and cleaning tips.

If your current vacuum-cleaning routine consists of simply emptying the canister or changing the bag, then your vacuum might not be sucking up as much as it could. As dirt, debris, dust, and hair collect throughout your machine’s filters, canisters, head, brushes, and hoses, the vacuum becomes less able to produce the air flow required to deep clean your floors and fabrics.
This means you’re likely spending more time—and seeing fewer results—when using the machine. It also means there’s a build-up of dust and dirt that can overheat the motor, clog the mechanisms, stop the brush, and eventually cause long-term damage to the vacuum itself.
Give your machine a deep clean with these expert techniques to protect your vacuum—and keep your home cleaner.

What the Lower Rack in Your Dishwasher Is Actually For
Put the arguments to bed.

Truth be told: When you open the dishwasher door at the end of a cycle to find a few stubbornly dirty plates, more often than not, the issue isn’t your soap or the machine. It’s how everything was arranged. The lower rack, in particular, tends to become a catch-all for whatever doesn’t fit up top. But it’s actually designed with a specific purpose in mind, and using it correctly can make all the difference in how clean your dishes come out.
Here’s what the lower rack of your dishwasher is really for and how to use it in a way that maximizes both cleanliness and space.

9 Mistakes Travelers Commonly Make in the Maldives—and How to Avoid Them on Your Next Trip
Here’s what you need to know before heading to this idyllic collection of more than 1,000 islands.

I. AO3 IS EXITING OPEN BETA

In early April, we announced that AO3 is exiting open beta!

AO3 has grown and changed a lot since open beta launched in 2009! We’ve gone from 347 users to over 10 million and from 6,598 works to over 17 million. We’ve also introduced many features in that time, including the tag system and tag wrangling, additional privacy settings that allow creators to restrict their works or comments to logged-in users, downloads for offline access to fanworks, and more.

Since AO3’s software has been stable for a long time, this change is mostly cosmetic and doesn’t indicate everything is finalized or perfectly working. Our volunteer coders and community contributors will still be adding to and improving post-beta AO3 every day.

For more information on AO3 exiting open beta, check out the announcement for details.

II. ELSEWHERE AT AO3

In March, we celebrated AO3 reaching 17 million works! \o/

Beyond exiting beta, Accessibility, Design & Technology also performed two important upgrades in March: updating Elasticsearch to version 9 and Ruby on Rails to version 8.1. With these two upgrades, AO3 is on the latest version for two of its most important pieces of software. They also published January’s release notes.

Systems published a postmortem on early March’s AO3 downtime.

Open Doors announced the import of SlasHeaven, a Spanish-language slash fanfiction and fanart archive, as part of their Online Archive Rescue Project.

In February, Policy & Abuse (PAC) received 5,674 tickets, which is over 2,000 fewer tickets than the previous month and marks the first decrease in PAC’s backlog since 2024. PAC also coordinated with Communications on a news post describing various spambots seen on AO3 and how we’re combating them. Also in February, Support received 3,031 tickets, and User Response Translation completed 42 requests from PAC and Support.

Tag Wrangling announced 31 new “No Fandom” canonical tags in their March round-up. On the @ao3org Tumblr, they announced changes to Critical Role fandom tags, creating an overarching fandom metatag for the Exandrian Universe and having specific campaigns or other media split into subtags. They hope these changes will help users better tag and filter for the works they want to see.

In February, Tag Wrangling wrangled over 543,000 tags or approximately 1,200 tags per wrangling volunteer.

III. ELSEWHERE AT THE OTW

Communications has updated the OTW News by Email service! You can now subscribe specifically to recruitment posts. If you’re already subscribed to OTW News by Email and would like to change what emails you receive, please contact Communications via their contact form.

In March, Fanlore ran a monthly editing challenge inviting users to archive external links on a page.

Legal answered a number of questions about pending and newly enacted laws around the world, as well as dealing with internal requests from OTW committees.

TWC released No. 47 of Transformative Works and Cultures, a special issue on Gaming Fandom edited by coeditors Hayley McCullough and Ashley P. Jones.

IV. GOVERNANCE

Board and Board Assistants Team continued work on ongoing and newer projects, including making progress on the OTW website project with Communications, supporting Accessibility, Design & Technology with their documentation, and supporting Finance with streamlining messaging policies. They also began preparing for the next public Board meeting scheduled for April 18.

In March, Development & Membership caught up on their recurring donation gifts and put in more regular procedures for them going forward. In conjunction with Communications and Translation, they’re now preparing for April’s Membership Drive by getting graphics and new gifts ready.

V. OUR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers & Recruiting conducted recruitment for three committees this month: Communications (News Post Moderation), Translation, and User Response Translation.

From February 21 to March 22, Volunteers & Recruiting received 160 new requests and completed 159, leaving them with 66 open requests (including induction and removal tasks listed below). As of March 22, 2026, the OTW has 992 volunteers. \o/ Recent personnel movements are listed below.

1. I actually got a full night’s sleep! Fingers crossed that continues.

2. It was a little rainy this morning (never more than sprinkling, really, and never for a long time) but dry the rest of the day. Very windy and cold, though. I’ve been wearing shorts and t-shirts since we got here, but today was definitely a jeans and hoodie day and unlike Disneyland, you can’t get back in the park once you leave, so we wouldn’t have been able to go back to the hotel and change if we’d needed to, but thankfully we made the right choice in the morning. It was colder than I would prefer today (especially with that wind!) but I’ll take it over the heat we had this weekend. (Still getting over the sunburn…)

3. We had a really nice day at Universal Studios. Even though we were only there for a few hours yesterday, it really did help us navigate better today, so I’m glad we went with the 1.5 day ticket. I do wish I’d done more research about the express passes and access to Super Nintendo World, because I tried to buy passes this morning before we went over there and they were all sold out. If you get a pass for one of the rides in Super Nintendo World, it guarantees access to the land, but otherwise you might end up with a situation like I did yesterday where even though you reserve a spot, there’s still a lottery for who gets in. I think that might only be for later in the day, though. This morning I couldn’t sign up for access at all, so I thought it was all sold out, too, but I then later I read something that they have non-reserved access first thing in the morning, so I tried again and was able to get a reservation for 3pm. Didn’t get to go on any of the rides because without a fast pass the lines were ridiculous (3 hours for Minecart Madness) but at least we got to go in and see the land. Even their original Super Nintendo land is bigger than ours, but now it has the Donkey Kong expansion so it’s huge and really impressive. We had a great time overall, though. Rode a few things they don’t have at our park, saw some shows, ate some delicious food, and took in the sights.

The brother came for dinner with his wife and his eldest daughter (they left the 20 month old with the Phillipino nurse) and we had a great evening of dinner and talking and catching up and dealing with an enthusiastic 5 year old.

And I have learned that I do not know how to deal with small willful children. I've dealt with small children at church and in social things before, but generally their parents are pretty clear on the boundaries. Not that G and his wife S weren't, just that I think Miss 5 worked out that I was a pushover pretty early and basically decided I was the most fun to push boundaries with.

Oy.

But it was a good night. I did the food prep and it went down well. G and S enjoyed themselves, and Miss 5 also liked having aunties who were happy to play and engage with her.

But man that girl has a lot of energy.

Anyway, they came around 5:30pm, we had dinner around 6:15, and they left around 9-9:30pm. It was such a good night!

In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, I have fallen deep into "Heated Rivalry". It's so refreshing to be only a few months late to a TV show fandom's debut! I absolutely love every part of it, from the steamy love scenes, to the tropealicious romance arc, to the gorgeous and talented leads, to the unhinged interviews with the cast (Hudson Williams, you horny chaos gremlin, never change), to the showrunner Jacob Tierney and his uncompromising vision of a gay love story with passionate love scenes that doesn't end in punishing tragedy, as well as his media savvy and whip-smart presence. The only thing that could have made me love it even more is if they had hired some of the old gang from the Seacouver Acting Mafia. David Hewlett as a crotchety coach? Tahmoh Penikett as a hockey enforcer? Throw us a bone here, Jacob!

I love everybody in this bar and have a ridiculous number of tabs open and a huge swath of fic marked for later on A03.

In no particular order, here are some of my favorites:

Gay Hockey Show
An absolute gem of a filk + vid (do I need to call them edits now? Fuck I'm old). This had me literally clapping and kicking my feet. I may have hit octaves only my dog heard with my squees of joy.

Shane & Ilya - We Found Love [Heated Rivalry]
Do you ever get lost in new relationship energy and every song on your playlist could be the soundtrack for a vid? And then sometimes you get lucky enough that someone has already had your brilliant idea and done a fantastic job so you don't have to? Yeah, that's this one with Rihanna's "We Found Love". I swear I watched it on repeat for a week to get my micro dopamine hits for this show. I really want to learn how to incorporate dialogue and audio from the source with the vid song to be able to make something like this.

clear to a hedgehog by magneticwave
An AU where Boston Raider Ilya Rozanov wonders if his casual fling Doctor Shane Hollander thinks he's actually in the Russian mafia. If I could send the author flowers and accolades and beg for more of this, I would. Delicious prose, fantastic character voices, super hot.

the secret society of stick handlers by gurlsrool
A screamingly funny epistolary series which had me shrieking so loud my husband was laughing at me.

So yeah, that's where my brain is at. What are you up to?

So! Some people went around the moon! And are on their way back!

I know the live video feed was super compressed and low-res intentionally, but I hope there is high-res eclipse footage when they land.

Also I know returning to the moon is not necessarily the best use of limited resources from a science perspective, but (one) I want people to feel aspirational about people doing science in space again, so we're not just getting press about billionaire assholes who want to, I dunno, put a casino in orbit around venus; and (two) this was all a mission by and for The People. This isn't a damn SpaceX or Blue Origins launch, this is NASA (with an assist from ESA and CSA).

I am going to love good things when they happen and space is a good thing.

Monday night.

Starting tomorrow, I'll have a full week and change where every day has some obligation or appointment, one Tuesday to another. Movie tickets, dentist visits, concerts, a whole bunch of stuff. Making a cake, too, though that's more within the bounds of my apartment and doesn't require me to show up anywhere besides the grocery store, and even then it's just to buy some fresh ingredients.

Is it strange I'm looking forward to it? There's parts that are going to be slightly inconvenient, and I'm looking forward to some things more than others, and overall I'm liking the idea of having places to go, things to do. Things to get done, really.

I started the at-home cataloging gig today. I didn't do much, just a few entries, because I wanted to touch base with the client as soon as was possible within the timeline of the project. I'm waiting on a response to let me know if it's what he wants, or what he wants changed. Certainly having other things to occupy my time is going to make waiting for an email or a phone call that much easier. There's only going to be so much Lunar live footage before they have to come back to Earth.

After much low-key drama (original ortho referral to UCSF got hooked in with my nutritionist, who also happens to be in ortho but not for this) I got another referral and will be seeing ortho on this side of the Bay. I start with the P.A. and there's probably going to be more imaging, most likely an MRI which means I need to take my nose stud out. JFC, that's going to be a thing but whatever.  In any case, back stuff is moving along.

Went out for a walk this morning without my walking poles for the first time and things are feeling a lot better. Only did an easy 30 minutes so as not to aggravate anything but overall, it felt good.  I know the surrounding neighborhoods pretty well so I can easily eke out a route that doesn't have a lot of people around while I am having big feelings about my body.

Saturdays I am part of a group working through "The Artist's Way." Participants have ebbed and flowed through according to our various schedules but the time working on it has been valuable. There's definitely some class issues embedded in it which are much more evident to me now as opposed to when the book came out in the 90s, especially when we're talking about time, being able to make space within your current situation.  However, it's been useful to do this and meeting new folks is always fun.

Have a quilt or two I want to start. Mostly just have to cut things and prep and get on it.  Also have to start a wedding quilt for the godson.  After I do one the first one that's scratching my brain, I'll start on the one for the wedding. The wedding is in October but I know me and how I work/not work with time. I already have the fabric so it's just a matter of getting started.

Our sportsgay transformation continues. Baseball is incoming.  We went to the second exhibition game between the Oakland Ballers and the San Jose Giants in San Jose.  Got to see our baseball friends and enjoy a mostly dry game.  Shirley and I came prepared for rain and there was a bit of a drizzle but nothing too bad. Our team got waxed but we all still had a good time anyway.  The Ballers were able to get the original Battle of the Bay trophy from NBC Sports and the original artist refashioned it to reflect that it is now the San Jose Giants vs. the Ballers instead of the SF Giants and the (formerly) Oakland As.  The Ballers' season opener is May 19 so not too long now.

"On a Scale of 1-10," Said the Nurse, "How Would You Rate Your Pain Today?"
by Tony Hoagland (2018)

If 1 is the name of your best friend from sixth grade,
which, for no reason, you remember right now,
standing in your socks on the cold tile of the examination room

—and 2 is how you will find your car in the parking lot later
and notice how dirty it has become—the back seat littered
with plastic wrappers and sales receipts—
and how it seems like a statement of how you have lived your life.

If 4 is the ache you feel in your left jaw
from clenching your teeth for the last ten years,
much in the manner of your father,

and 5 is what you felt at midnight last week
when you saw the flashing red lights of a police car
rolled up on your next-door neighbor’s lawn,

splashing the whole street the sickening
color of strawberry jello
as their son was handcuffed, locked in the back, and driven away.

If 6 is the quiet discomfort you feel about being
a citizen of the richest country on earth
—which seems to be dragging you along for the ride,
a ride to which you do not seem to be objecting
as you enter the all-natural grocery store.

If 8 is the absence of a parent or brother or child
whom you might call at this moment
to explain where you are.

If 9 is your loss of belief in sense-making itself
combined with the slight nausea you get
when you try to arrange things in ascending order,

then how do you measure that?
What is its numerical value?

We made it through the Triduum! Actually, in some ways I felt like this year was less stressful than it often is; somehow I just... wasn't as worried about things going wrong. I knew we would cope if they did. And, in fact, nothing really did go wrong, although as ever I have notes for next year. Between that and the free time I did manage to find (taking Maundy Thursday off work so that I have the day free before the service in the evening is the best idea, and I desperately needed that break this year) I have bounced back pretty well already. Although Fr A decided that we were going to kneel down between every single intercession on Good Friday, and my thighs were so stiff the next day! I felt very feeble for it, but also, ow.

Yesterday was family Easter, which is always nice but a bit exhausting just from the sheer volume of people (we had thirteen for dinner this year) (didn't seem unlucky though!). But today I slept in, refused to shower or get dressed, and ended up with enough energy to do the first couple of rounds of moving things back to where they ought to be after several days of dumping bags and pocket contents and so on on the nearest surface; the desperately overdue washing up (I've not been home for many meals, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it wasn't great!); and, unexpectedly, even some of the "I must at some point" tasks.

I washed the net curtains in my bedroom - turns out they're actually white, who knew. They were already up when I moved in here and I haven't taken them down since, so it really was time. I hung them straight back up as the best drying option - it was a lovely fresh day, bizarrely for a bank holiday. I still need to do the spare room net curtains; maybe tomorrow. And I've added a reminder to my to-do list to wash them once a year, although I have no idea whether that's a reasonable length of time... anyone have any opinions?

And I did three of my sewing projects pile - I've had a t-shirt and a hoodie sitting on the blanket chest for at least six months, and I tore the pocket of my new hoodie slightly on Saturday, as well as bringing my horrible sweaty alb home from church to wash again, with the fraying sleeve I meant to fix last time. So the two hoodies and the alb sleeve were all hand-stitching projects and are now done; the alb hem and the t-shirt need the sewing machine really, and I have hopes for tomorrow on that. I'm so bad at sewing, but none of these are really visible and they're better than they were before I started, so that will have to do.

My reading took up most of the rest of the day; I finished the initial ebook collection I'd made on Thursday, and made a new one with 23 books in it which I am very much enjoying working on.

Chloe Bailey joined baby sis Halle in Los Angeles for a screening of the latter’s film You, Me & Tuscany, a film with a title that we have never once gotten correct on the first try. Halle ditched the sweet rom-com-inspired styling she’s been working throughout the promo tour and joined big sis in being a hottie.

These aren’t exactly complicated looks, but they both look great. A girl can’t go wrong in a body con minidress, although we can’t say we’re loving the high neckline on this one. The scalloped hem is kind of cute, maybe because it’s so subtle. Love the drape and the color of Chloe’s gown, although we think the slit is a bit high, proportionally speaking. Personally, we tend to think drapey brown gowns call for big, chunky gold jewelry, but her pieces are nice.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Sometimes the wrong place is right where you need to be.
From Will Packer, the blockbuster producer of Girls Trip, the Ride Along franchise, and ten movies that have opened No. 1 at the U.S. box office—including Night School, This Christmas and Think Like a Man—comes a delicious romantic comedy about one little lie, one large Italian villa, and two people getting lost in the sauce of love.
Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid, The Color Purple) stars as Anna, a young woman who has abandoned her dreams of becoming a chef and is now drifting through her twenties with a series of bad choices. When Anna loses her house-sitting job (and housing) in one fell swoop, a chance encounter with Matteo—a handsome Italian who happens to have a villa sitting empty in Tuscany—will inspire her to jet off for Italy, against the advice of her always-honest bestie, Claire (Home Before Dark’s Aziza Scott).
But Anna’s plan to crash at Matteo’s villa, without permission, just for one night, falls apart when Matteo’s mother, Gabriella (Italian film icon Isabella Ferrari) shows up at the house unexpectedly. In a panic, Anna allows Gabriella to believe that she is Matteo’s fiancée.
That little lie becomes a big problem, though, when Matteo’s cousin, Michael (Regé-Jean Page; Bridgerton, Black Bag) shows up, and Anna discovers that the heat between them may ignite a fire that will transform her life.
Cast: Halle Bailey, Regé-Jean Page, Lorenzo de Moor, Isabella Ferrari, Aziza Scott, Marco Calvani and Nia Vardalos

FAQ

What does "iddy" mean?

See the Fanlore entry for a definition. In brief, id fic and id art are works that resonate with you on a deep level. This feeling can't be denied or suppressed, even if the thing that really gets you going is also something you feel is morally wrong, ridiculous, or not in keeping with how you see yourself. A feminist may get off on women being degraded; a cat fancier may harbor a fondness for dogpeople AUs. The id wants what it wants, and this is an exchange for giving it what it wants.

Iddy creations do not need to be sexually explicit. Maybe your id is deeply invested in drinking tea while autumn rains fall, rescuing abandoned emu chicks, or surreptitiously holding hands. Works of all ratings are welcome in IPQ. However, regardless of what you plan to request or create, you must be 18 or older to participate.

How do I contact the mods if I have a question?

Your mods this year are westiec and Tavina and can be reached at idficmod@gmail.com. Please do not contact us through discord.

General rules

Even if you have participated in many IPQs in the past, we have made some changes this year, please read our rules in full.

  • We have removed the need to nominate original work ships with gender configuration prefixes. Please clarify if you have a preferred gender configuration.
  • We have updated the tagset so now we have a stable eternal freeform tagset
  • Clarified mod contact preferences

I should probably hit pause on all my Pitt WIPs, as we have only two weeks left and last week's episode [we need a new word for "canon events have contradicted what I was writing" because I refuse to use the previous option] the entire setup I was working for a Robby/Jesse. Although I could definitely re-write the setup parts, since I've only got a thousand words which isn't much to have to retool - but again, I might as well wait until we know how Robby's day actually ends and if there are further updates on Jesse's situation. And I have a lot (A LOT) of WIPs that involve Samira, and so should wait to see how her storyline wraps up as well - even if I end up simply ignoring it entirely.

As I am not me if I don't write something entirely contradictory at least once, I spent the last two weeks writing nearly 10k of NSFW Santos/Langdon, if I cause a commotion. I kind of can't believe I managed to buckle down and finish it - I get enough confrontation at work, I don't need it in my fanfic, so writing characters actually dislike each other and argue was a stretch for me.

Thoughts on some various Pitt things (spoilers through 2x13). )

Hello,

the weekly chat post has come again. Do you have something to talk about?

~ ~ ~

In my corner of the world, we're traditionally celebrating that a religion's main dude died but came back (sorta). Nothing to do with Star Wars, but it led to a family visit and a SW-related discussion.

We were talking about LEGO, and my (very opinionated) dad said, roughly: "but they just keep making those Harry Potter and Star Wars sets, it's stupid, it's the same thing over and over".

And... hm. Firstly, I was of course pretty unhappy to hear SW compared to the TERF Financial Support IP. Then... does SW really look derivative from the outside? Hm. I could see it, maybe. Sure, there are new stories, but if you look at general merch it's Vader, Vader, Vader and some Stormtroopers, maybe baby Yoda? Oh, and then Kylo Ren-branded school gear, always installed in a stand right beside the same things with Elsa from Frozen. (What gender is your kid, magical ice princess or genocidal emo?)

Hm.

Easter Monday. I slept pretty badly (repeatedly waking, and not taking ibuprofen when I first woke with a headache; I've absorbed the notion of "if possible, don't take ibuprofen if you're going to be lying down right afterward" and this tends to result in this exact situation of "wake up in the night with headache, tell self you'll go back to sleep and it'll go away [which never works], wake again later with no reduction in headache, take ibuprofen when about to lie back down anyway").

I had slightly larger, albeit still small, ambitions for today prior to the bad sleep, but we ventured out briefly on an unsuccessful quest for scones (we verified the shop was open and I even called ahead to try to make sure they had scones, but I got voicemail and no one returned my call, so we gambled and lost). Ah well.

Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn wore a genuinely interesting dress to the PaleyFest Pluribus presentation and we thank her for her service during this fallow period on the world’s red carpets. We will repay her hard work by throwing her to the wolves kittens. Prepare yourself for the scrolldown. It’s not horrifying, but it is a little unexpected:

Part of the reason we’re putting this up to a vote — aside from the whole “getting people to talk about red carpet looks is our job” thing — is because it’s one of those designs that’s going to inspire instant opinions in people. You can’t look at this dress and have a neutral reaction. So, do you love it or hate it? We’re on the love side of the equation. The color story is bold and the inserts are extremely unexpected. We like how the top half is relatively plain so that the skirt doesn’t have to fight for attention. It’s not a dress that causes its wearer to recede and we love that about it. We’re not crazy about the hem length and we think the matchy shoes were a big mistake, but we like this. And you?

The Drama star Zendaya stopped by the Jennifer Hudson show in another white ensemble. But despite the deployment of her ever-present Louboutin white pumps, this one won’t come off so bridal to you once you see the full picture. We just have a hunch:

Beaver pelts. So not bridal, are we right? We are not loving the current fashion trend for slapping random pieces of faux fur on skirts and dresses. We saw a lot of that leading up to the Oscars and we hated it, but we just thought it was about random designers getting bored. We weren’t prepared for a full beaver assault. It seems like every time we get well and truly sick of one design trend, the world of fashion over-corrects. A full year of us whining about the ubiquity of feathers on every dress and gown and now we’re going to have to look at these silly rat hides on everything. In related news, wow are those belt loops annoying or what?

Spambot Comments on AO3

Apr. 6th, 2026 06:12 pm
[syndicated profile] otw_news_feed

Posted by therealmorticia

NOTE: This is a living document and will be updated in response to changes and new types of spam as observed by OTW volunteers.

LAST UPDATED: March 30, 2026

As AO3 continues to grow, there has been an increase in the amount and variety of spambots that attempt to harass or scam users. Spambots may try to imitate other users and even AO3/OTW volunteers to appear more realistic. This post shares a brief update on how we’re working to combat this issue, what types of spam we’ve seen, and what you can do if you encounter spam comments on AO3.

What We’re Doing

Protecting our users from scammers and bots targeting AO3 is important to us, and we are actively working to combat spam on the site in a variety of ways—both visible and not. We will not share a detailed list of every change we’ve made (so as to not provide spammers with information about how to circumvent these measures), but some examples include introducing comment rate limits for logged-in users, changing the default comment setting on new works to “Registered users only”, spam checking comments and comment edits from new users, and making a variety of improvements to the admin tools used by our Policy & Abuse volunteers to handle reports and remove spam comments.

We continue to consider and undertake additional technical changes to help prevent and improve our response to spambots. However, it is important to us that any anti-spam measures we implement do not substantially harm users who are browsing or attempting to comment normally. Many more aggressive anti-spam measures would make AO3 less accessible, particularly for users using assistive devices such as screen readers.

In addition to taking technical steps to help address the issues, we continue to post updates about spambots and other important changes to AO3 on our Tumblr, Bluesky, and Twitter/X. We encourage you to follow us on these platforms to stay informed about what’s going on.

Types of Spam Comments

Below is a list of different types of spam comments that have been posted on AO3 over the last year. We intend to maintain this list and add new types of spam to it as they are identified; however, this list may not include every type of spam comment that could possibly be received. We encourage you to remain vigilant and follow internet safety best practices.

If you’re not sure if something is a spam comment, you’re welcome to contact Policy & Abuse for assistance. Before doing so, we encourage you to click through the links below to learn more about each type of comment and use your best judgement to determine if a comment appears to be genuine or could be a scam.

  • Art Commission Spam: These comments come from both guests and registered accounts who pretend to be artists who want to make comics or illustrations for your fanfic. They may ask questions or praise your work to try and get you to reply to them, before convincing you to contact them off AO3 (often via Discord). They will try to scam you into paying for their art, which is either AI-generated or does not exist at all. (First reported August 2024, news post published December 2024)
  • Deprecated Fandoms Spam: These guest comments claim that AO3 will be “deleting works to conserve server space”. There is no such thing as a deprecated fandom and there is no limit on the number of fanworks that can be posted to a specific tag. (First reported May 2025, Tumblr announcement May 2025)
  • AI Use Accusation Spam: These guest comments will accuse you of using AI in your work. They may mention a particular AI generator or AI detection service, or claim that they “saw you remove the AI prompts from your work”. (First reported April 2023, Tumblr announcement November 2025)
  • Harassing Spam: These guest comments will accuse you or another user of promoting discriminatory beliefs, deceiving fans, or similar behaviors. They often suggest that you “consider adding more diverse characters” to “repair the trust you’ve lost with your audience”. (First reported October 2025, Tumblr announcement November 2025)
  • Praise and Unsolicited Suggestions Spam: These guest comments will compliment your writing but then offer ridiculous suggestions for how to make your work better. Similar to the harassing spam, they may ask you to add a minority character to your work or threaten to publicly expose you if you don’t do what they want. (First reported October 2025)
  • Special Character/Keysmash Spam: These comments are usually long and consist entirely of emojis or nonsense, keysmash-style sequences of characters from a variety of non-Latin scripts or languages (e.g., Chinese, Cyrillic, Thai, etc). (First reported November 2025)
  • Reporting To Authorities Spam: These guest comments threaten to report you or your work to the authorities or your employers. They also may allege security concerns like your email being compromised or spyware on your computer. (First reported December 2025, Tumblr announcement December 2025)
  • Disparaging Spam: These guest comments insult you or your writing, claiming that you “wasted your talents” or “have no life”. They may also threaten suicide or tell you to delete your work. (First reported December 2025)
  • PowerShell Spam: These comments present you with a piece of code to enter into your computer’s terminal/command line. While they claim that the purpose of the code is for your protection or security, the code in these comments would actually delete all documents from your hard drive. (First reported January 2026)
  • Doxxing Threat Spam: These guest comments claim that they know where you live, have seen you in person, and/or threaten to meet you face-to-face. They often say that they have or will post your personal information (name, address, etc.) online or that they are stalking you in real life (e.g. “left a gift in a briefcase near your house”). (First reported January 2026, Tumblr announcement January 2026)
  • Spam Impersonating OTW Volunteers: These guest comments claim to be AO3/OTW volunteers and say that there has been a data breach or that AO3 and other sites (such as Reddit) have been sending out fraudulent password reset emails. (First reported January 2026, Tumblr announcement February 2026)
  • Downtime Spam: These guest comments claim that the March 2026 AO3 downtime was caused by hackers and AO3 has a virus that will destroy your device, and encourage reformatting your device or deleting all your works. (First reported March 2026)

None of the accusations these spam comments make are true. The bots are merely spamming false accusations in order to alarm or harass AO3 users. It is generally safe to ignore these comments once you’ve removed and/or reported them as outlined below.

What You Can Do

Do not engage in conversation with spam commenters. Do not provide your email or social media contact information to a commenter who asks for it. Scammers try to get you to talk to them privately, because it is often easier to deceive or manipulate people in a one-on-one conversation.

Do not click on any links, run any code commands on your computer, or search out and harass any users named in these comments. Scammers often copy the username of a real AO3 user on their guest comments to make them look more real. Pay attention to the “(Guest)” indicator which will appear next to the name of anyone who comments while not logged in.

For spam comments on your own work, the best way to handle them depends on whether they are from registered accounts or guests. Refer to the instructions below on how to handle Spam from a Guest User or Spam from a Registered Account.

If you see a spambot comment on someone else’s work, you can report the comment as spam to Policy & Abuse (even if it’s a guest comment) as you would a comment on your own work. You can also let the creator know the comment is from a bot and that they should mark it as spam.

Please don’t report comments that have already been deleted. As part of handling a report about spam comments (whether from guests or registered accounts), we will remove other comments made by the same bot. If the comments have been deleted, the bot has already been actioned and no further reports are needed.

Spam from a Guest User

If you receive a spambot comment on your work which is posted by a guest:

  1. Go directly to the comment on your work, either by clicking on the link in your email or in your AO3 inbox.

Note: The “Spam” button only appears when viewing a guest comment directly on your work. This is because the AO3 comment inbox is merely a copy of the work’s comments—deleting a comment from your AO3 inbox does not delete the comment from the work itself.

  2. Click on the “Spam” button to mark the guest comment as spam, remove it from your work, and help train our automated spam-checker to reject similar spam comments in the future.

Note: Marking guest comments as spam does not submit a report to the Policy & Abuse committee, but unless you are receiving dozens of guest spam comments in a short time period, there is no need to submit a separate report.

To prevent future guest spam comments, you may also want to consider disabling anonymous commenting or restricting your work to registered users only.

If you are reporting multiple guest comments, please submit only one report and include all comment links in your report description. (You can get the direct link to a specific comment by selecting the “Thread” button on the comment and copying the URL of that page.)

If you are receiving dozens of guest spam comments in a short time period, we recommend turning on comment moderation and providing us with a link to the unreviewed comments section of the affected work(s) instead of reporting the comments individually.

Spam from a Registered Account

If the spam comment is posted by a registered AO3 account:

  1. Select the “Thread” button on the spam comment. This will take you to the specific comment page.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Policy Questions & Abuse Reports.
  3. In the “Brief summary of Terms of Service violation” field, enter “Spambot”.
  4. In the “Description of the content you are reporting” field, enter “This is a spambot, their username is USERNAME.” (replace USERNAME with the account’s actual username)
  5. Optionally, you may also choose to block or mute the account.

Please don’t report multiple spam accounts in one report. Each account is actioned separately and listing more than one account per report delays our response to you.

Closing

In general, please follow internet safety best practices and be cautious of unsolicited advertisements or harassing comments on your work. For some advice on other ways you can protect your AO3 account, take a look at this internet security guidance from our Policy & Abuse volunteers.

New trailer for THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 with original song “Runway” performed by Lady Gaga and Doechii.

They’ve dropped a new trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 with the original song “Runway,” performed by Lady Gaga and Doechii. We remain not-mad. Thoughts below:

Meryl looks stunning in the posters, as she should. We would have loved it if Miranda had spent the entire film having no idea who Andy is, as the teaser trailer hinted, but it would seem that’s not the story we’re going to get. So far, this isn’t necessarily feeling like a total rehash of the original film, even if the trailers are hitting some of the same beats. Our only wish is that Andy, who’s no intern or ingenue at this point, tells Miranda to shut the fuck up and get the fuck over herself. If she spends the film allowing herself to be insulted or mistreated, we’re just not sure what the point would be.

Twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in 20th Century Studios’ “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation. The film is directed by David Frankel, written by Aline Brosh McKenna, produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna.
Cast: Meryl Streep (Miranda), Anne Hathaway (Andy), Emily Blunt (Emily), Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora, Tracie Thoms, Tibor Feldman, with Kenneth Branagh and Stanley Tucci (Nigel).

As part of AOTY ARIRANG's promo/rollout, BTS has opted to do a lot of YouTube content with v. few interviews elsewhere. This time around, we get two different videos that bring equal parts lulz and awww.

Starting with Jin attempting to cook while Vmin are just BRATTY AF. He's so patient with their detours and impish vibes. Taehyung, especially, is A TERROR AND A DELIGHT. I was literally wiping tears from my face cuz I laughed THAT hard.

Then, SUGA, RM, Jungkook, and j-hope sat down to teach viewers some Korean words (including slang.) Though less wild than the cooking video, this one deffo had a lot of moments to enjoy as well.

So, yesterday I kind of realized something. When I think about what it means to "do things" I really wasn't counting the things that matter. The things that build up a day, or make things pleasant, or anything like that.

I thought "doing things" meant making words, or actually consuming media, or things like that. In my brain doing something like making my bed, or lighting incense (things that make my life just a little more pleasant) weren't doing enough to matter. I didn't think actually putting away dishes was something that should count, and while taking a shower *sort of* counted, it didn't feel like actually doing something.

And like, this is not true? Doing the things that are building blocks for your life should absolutely count. Especially if you're someone who's not good at actually accomplishing those things every day (you know, someone like me.). All of those things matter and they're important for eventually allowing yourself to do the creative, fun things.

All of it is hard in one way or another. Showers are hard. Brushing my teeth is hard. But so is sitting down and writing, or actually watching a movie or reading. They're different kinds of hard, sure, but they're all difficult in one way or another. But, for whatever reason, I wans't giving myself any credit for doing those small, daily tasks that are important.

So, now I'm trying to pivot my brain a little bit and starting to do that. I literally sat down and made a big list of stuff I do/want to do and assigned points to them. The daily, life-oriented stuff gets the most points, and creative stuff gets a few less. It's not that the creative stuff isn't important, but for now I need to let myself embrace the idea that the actual life stuff is maybe worth as much, if not more, than those things.

We'll see how it goes, but since doing that, I got up at a decent time today, and have done a bunch of life stuff that is good for me. So like, we're doing good so far?

Princess Cathy had herself a very neutral sort of Easter Sunday with the fam. She packed up the kids in the family van and headed off to St George’s to meet up with Pop Pop. The looks were, as always, highly coordinated and deathlessly appropriate.

Like the late Queen, Catherine has always understood that color is one of the most important tools in her public-facing arsenal and there’s not a shade or hue she hasn’t tried to make work for her in the last two decades, so it’s a bit unusual to see her all in pale neutrals like this. It’s a gorgeous suit, although the pineapples are a bit distracting. We’re never going to love that style of hat, but the botanical detail is very pretty. The rest of the family is, as always, rigidly coordinated; a tightly bound team in their team (non) colors.

46 best movies based on true stories that will have you hooked
Real-life inspo actually worth watching.

The world of Hollywood is full of incredible stories. But movies based on true stories are extra special, and you wouldn’t believe some of the blockbusters that have real-life DNA.
Did you know that The Sound of Music was based on a memoir? Or that Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie star in an important #MeToo story, Bombshell? From J-Lo’s Hustlers to Dallas Buyers Club, there are so many real-life inspired movies to choose from.
We don’t blame Hollywood for turning to the world’s population for their real tales of determination, survival, romance, crime and much more. Knowing that some of our favourite movies are centred on the lives of real people leaves us with an array of emotions at the end of a film. Sometimes that is one of inspiration, sometimes of pure disgust. Other times it’s simply a heartwarming story that mirrors small elements from our lives, making our time on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn an insight into our self-discovery.

Inside the Original Dallas Cast’s Lives 48 Years After the Show Premiered
When ‘Dallas’ premiered almost 50 years ago, it created a legacy for both the franchise and the stars

Dallas premiered 48 years ago on April 2, 1978.
The CBS soap opera became an instant hit and launched the careers of several of its stars — including Larry Hagman, Ken Kercheval, Barbara Bel Geddes, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, among others. The show ran for 14 seasons and 13 years before it came to an end on May 3, 1991.
Although Dallas concluded in 1991, it launched the spinoff series Knots Landing, two reunion movies and a TNT revival series. Just like its generation-spanning fanbase, the show’s cast has previously looked back fondly on their time on the show.

I finally started telling my friends that I can’t afford their weddings
It’s never been so expensive to be a wedding guest, but for some, it’s less than the social cost of being upfront about money.

Welcome to being the friend who can’t afford anything, not even your lovely wedding. The one who stretches her credit card balance to attend their friends’ weddings, who stays silent because it’s better than facing the equal evils of pity or judgment. The shame of being the friend in the lowest tax bracket in a country that never wants to talk about money is debilitating, especially as peak wedding season approaches.

Amanda Peet: ‘At 54, I Love That My Boss Writes Me Sex Scenes—and Menopause Scenes’
The Your Friends & Neighbors star opens up about going through the early stages of menopause and why she’s been wanting to “key a lot of cars” the last few years.

While Mel is quietly coming to terms with her new reality, Amanda Peet, on the other hand, is proudly owning it. “Thank goodness it’s less taboo to talk about now,” Peet tells Glamour of perimenopause and menopause. “I’m 54, so I’m dealing with all of that shit, and it’s pretty hellish. It was actually really fun—and very real—that [creator and executive producer] Jonathan Tropper put it into Mel’s storyline. We saw her keying that random car last season, and God knows I’ve wanted to key a lot of cars in the last three years. People seemed to be really into that part of Mel, so we were really into the idea that she has a lot of rage.”

The best spring nail colours for women over 50
Ideal and trendy shades.

Knowing the best spring nail colours for women over 50 can make all the difference at your next appointment with your manicurist. It’s normal to become more selective with colours when you reach a certain age, but the truth is that there are plenty of trendy shades that flatter mature skin, bringing freshness, elegance, and an immediate rejuvenating effect.
The most flattering colours visually soften the skin and enhance its natural beauty. Shades such as soft pinks, delicate beiges, translucent mauves, and classic reds are safe bets for a sophisticated and contemporary manicure without looking too bold. The key is to choose colours that harmonise with the undertone of the skin.

On Saturday, April 4, Sky Ferreira dropped in a fan’s Instagram comments after they reposted a clip of the singer’s 2012 music video “Everything Is Embarrassing” on X (formerly known as Twitter). With the retweet, they questioned: “i wonder what’s her form of income.”

Wispy bangs are the easy, low-maintenance way to try a fringe this summer
Celebs from Jenna Ortega and Selena Gomez to Zoë Kravitz are obsessed.

If you’ve ever wondered ‘should I get a fringe?’ but you’re eternally worried that it might involve too much upkeep, wispy bangs make a strong case for starting with something a bit softer.
Lighter and easier to work with than a traditional full fringe, wispy bangs sit somewhere between barely-there face-framing layers and classic bangs, making them one of the easiest ways tor refresh your hair without a dramatic change. It’s an option that doesn’t just look cool but is also super low maintenance and very much lazy-girl approved.

Striped Nail Designs Are the Cool-Girl Alternative to Polka-Dot Nails
When it comes to nail art, some might argue that there are too many options to choose from. But sometimes it pays to revisit a classic—like striped nail designs.
While other motifs, like cat-eye and florals, are all great choices for your spring manicure, we’re pinning striped nails as the print that everyone will be wild about this year. Polka dots totally took over both fashion and beauty last year, and we’re expecting the same level of impact from striped-mani mania in 2026.

How to Wear Burgundy and Chartreuse, Spring’s Biggest Color Trend
It’s the season’s most unexpected pairing—and the easiest way to make your wardrobe feel current.

Wearing red and green beyond the holidays feels like some sort of sartorial crime. But it doesn’t have to be—at least according to fashion’s top-tier luxury labels. For Prada’s Spring 2026 collection, the brand styled a scrunched-up burgundy sweater over a chartreuse button-down. Not to mention, during that same fashion week circuit, similar color combinations appeared across the glitzy catwalks of Balmain and Ulla Johnson.

How to Style Linen Shorts, Summer’s Most Versatile Styling Solution
Work, dinner, weekend plans—they do it all.

If I’ve learned one thing in the last year, it’s the importance of linen to the well-rounded summer wardrobe. And once you figure out how to style linen shorts, you’ll realize the breezy bottoms are as crucial to warm-weather dressing as the classic white tee and jeans—and just as versatile too.
Of course, linen shorts are lightweight and breathable—perfect for swampy summer days—but that’s only half of the draw. The textured fabric makes for limitless styling opportunities. These shorts can feel polished and professional for work on Friday, then youthful and laid-back for a beach day on Saturday or a fancy brunch on Sunday. (Just ask Olivia Rodrigo.) They’re the summer staple that truly does it all. Need some evidence? Keep reading to find out how to style linen shorts for 2026.

Red Shoes Are Your Secret Weapon to Wear With Jeans, Skirts, and Pants This Spring
Red shoes have a rare talent: They can change the entire mood of an outfit in an instant. These are not shoes made to stay still at the back of the closet. They’re cinematic, impeccable, and confident. When we think of a woman in red shoes, we don’t think of shyness or hiding in the background. We think of a main character.
That’s why red shoes are capable of making even the most sober outfit memorable. When it comes to putting together a spring outfit, red is not just a pretty accent shade—it’s a total decision. With a well-chosen shoe, you get elegant precision.

What Is Tokyo-Style Pizza? Why You’re About to See It Everywhere in the US
From Tokyo institutions to Manhattan pop-ups, this pizza style is gaining a global following.

Pizza is iconic in the U.S. It’s an ever-evolving obsession for the people who spin the dough, taking on Mexican, Korean, French, and Indian influences. Now, another version is coming stateside: Tokyo-style pizza.
The interpretation landed in New York City amid fanfare in February. Two renowned Tokyo pizzaiolos, the pioneer Susumu Kakinuma and his former apprentice, Tsubasa Tamaki, each launched separate, independently planned pop-ups, which quickly sold out.
The style has already been winning the world over. Five of the World’s Best Pizza Awards went to Japan. Tamaki has fielded franchise requests from Brazil, China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.

Bar Soap or Body Wash? Here’s How Each One Affects Your Skin
After a long day at the office, an intense workout, or a fun night out, sometimes all you want to do is come home and take a nice, hot shower. As the water cascades down your face and the rest of the world melts away, there are a few potential starting points to the perfect shower routine. But whether you reach for your shampoo, face wash, or razor first, there’s one step nobody can ignore: washing your body. The question is, though, are you team bar soap or team body wash? For those undecided, here’s everything you need to know.

Here Are All the K-Pop Albums That Have Topped the Billboard 200: Full List
BTS was the first K-pop act to top the all-genre chart; BLACKPINK was the first female K-pop act to do so.

K-pop groups tend to be large ensembles. TWICE has nine members, one more than Stray Kids and ATEEZ. BTS and SuperM each have seven members. TOMORROW X TOGETHER and NewJeans each have five members. BLACKPINK has four members. To date, no K-pop solo artists, duos or trios have topped the Billboard 200.
There have been multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 by K-pop acts in every year since 2018 except for 2021, when there were none. The peak year (to date) for most No. 1 K-pop albums on the Billboard 200 was 2023, when there were five. Here’s a list of all K-pop albums to top the Billboard 200. They are listed in chronological order.

Dan Levy Says He Considered a ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Sequel Series Before Catherine O’Hara’s Death
O’Hara played Levy’s mom on the Emmy-winning sitcom.

Dan Levy knows there’s no Schitt’s Creek without Catherine O’Hara.
During a recent interview on CBS News Sunday Morning, the Emmy-winning actor, producer and showrunner visited Goodwood — the small town in Ontario, Canada, where Schitt’s Creek was filmed — for the first time since the sitcom wrapped in 2020.

Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King thinks And Just Like That will ‘age well’
“If there was a great disaster, it would have been if ‘And Just Like That’ tried to be ‘Sex and the City.'”
Michael Patrick King couldn’t help but wonder: Will the world eventually come around to And Just Like That?
The showrunner discussed his polarizing Sex and the City follow-up series while promoting his other big HBO revival, The Comeback, which was resurrected in 2014 after being canceled in 2005 and has now returned for its third and final season.
“If The Comeback has taught me anything,” King told The Guardian in a new interview, “it’s that perceptions can change over the years. The Comeback’s first perception was: It failed. Then it grew in relevance as the world caught up.”

Where to Donate Formalwear and Bridesmaid Dresses to Give Them a Second Life
Turn past looks into future memories.
We get it: Decluttering formalwear can feel emotional. These pieces are often worn during significant or special life moments—but plenty of good can come from letting them go. Not only do they likely take up a significant amount of space in your closet, but your pre-loved formalwear also has the potential to become part of new memories and milestones for someone else.
“Formal dresses are often financially out of reach for many families, yet they are essential for milestone events like prom,” shares Pam Kirtman, co-chair of Becca’s Closet, a nonprofit organization dedicated to distributing formalwear to those in need. “A donated dress does more than fill a closet,” says Kirtman. “It gives confidence and the chance to fully participate in milestone experiences with their peers and to make lasting memories.”

How to Plan a Day Trip to the Palace of Versailles—France’s Most Magnificent Royal Landmark
Here’s the ultimate guide to visiting this must-see historic site from Paris.

Once a humble hunting lodge, the opulent Palace of Versailles is now a magnificent testament to the lavishness of royalty—and a symbol of the inequality that later incited the French Revolution. King Louis XIV (the “Sun King” of France) transformed this rural stretch of Île-de-France into a grand palace in 1682, when he relocated the French government, and yet its role as a royal residence was short-lived. After only two more kings (Louis XV and Louis XVI), the revolution swept the nation, and Versailles ceased to be a permanent palace for the French monarchy, which was done away with altogether in 1792.

1. Still failing on the sleep front, but I keep hoping the next night will be better. We’ll see!

2. We had planned to go to Dotonbori this morning before heading over to Universal Studios, but were both worn out from yesterday’s sunburn and Carla was sore, so we decided to skip it for this trip and just rest in the morning before we needed to check out. There were some shops nearby that were on the list to check out (Muji and HMV), but they both didn’t open until 11, so we rested and then packed up and checked it and had the hotel hold our luggage. The Muji was a huge one that has a cafe, too, so that’s where we had lunch.

3. Another change in plans was that we were going to take the train to USJ, but with Carla being so exhausted the idea of lugging our bags on public transport was not appealing so we decided to just get a taxi. It was of course much more expensive than taking the train would have been (even though it’s only five miles away), but it was worth it.

4. The Front Gate Hotel here at USJ is way nicer in every way than the Hankyu Respire in Umeda was, even though it’s much cheaper. The Respire you’re definitely paying for the convenience of being in the heart of the city.

5. We got the 1.5 day tickets for USJ so we just went in for a few hours this afternoon/evening to explore the park. Could not get into Super Nintendo Land, but hopefully tomorrow.

The Wrong Box by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne (1889). This novel, co-written by RLS and his stepson, is a rather macabre comedy of errors and unfortunately I find that style of heavily misunderstanding-based humour and plotting stressful rather than funny, so I didn't enjoy it very much. (It also had me repeatedly thinking, surely that's as much contrived coincidence as you need to make the plot work?... No, evidently not, here's another one...) But on the level of sentences and dialogue it's very well-constructed and I admired that. As I noted of The Dynamiter (co-written by Fanny), it doesn't show obvious signs of having two different authors, and if the style and subject are rather different from RLS's other books it's not clear how much of that was due to Osbourne's style and how much was RLS varying things as he was wont to do.

They Were Defeated by Rose Macaulay (1932). I can remember the title of this book catching my eye years ago, but I didn't get round to reading it until I recently found a copy in a second-hand bookshop with a cover design immediately making clear that it's set in the 1640s in Cambridge. That sounds interesting, thought I, and the good thing about the Civil War is that you can call your book They Were Defeated without giving away which side you're writing about, because do you stop in 1649 or keep going to 1660? In fact it's more complicated than that: the book is set in 1640-41 and only reaches the actual war briefly in the epilogue, the title is not a straightforward reference to one side or the other and the average main character's viewpoint is that the Puritans in Parliament are worse than the King but the King is hardly worthy of ardent loyalty either. It is a strange book and has several aspects worth discussing, so I'll take it in points:

1) Macaulay really commits to the use of historical language in dialogue. She warns the reader of this in a prefaratory note and apologises for any inaccuracies; I don't know the period well enough to comment on how accurate it really is, but it's certainly believable and doesn't feel forced or unnatural. Occasionally there are letters written by the characters which—between unfamiliar language use and abbreviations and period-typical bad spelling—get genuinely difficult to read, and I say that while having some experience of reading seventeenth-century letters and diaries. I'm impressed.

2) Barbara Pym might have liked this book, because it has a lot of her seventeenth-century poets in it. The book is divided into three parts, each of which has a poetic epigraph whose author appears as a major character, with the most major being Robert Herrick. (Herrick's Wikipedia page notes that he wrote a lot of love poems addressed to women, but that he was a lifelong bachelor and it's generally supposed that these women were fictional; Macaulay conjectures that they were mostly fictional but one of them was real, while also giving a definite impression that Herrick is in love with the recently-deceased Ben Jonson.) Anyway, I'm not a huge poetry fan but it was an interesting aspect of history to see in a book.

3) More relevant to my interests was the discussion of contemporary theological and political controversies: it's very much a book set in the lead-up to the Civil War and the details of King and Parliament, Puritans and Papists and Arminians and Calvinists and what all the different factions are doing and arguing about and I found it all terribly interesting. For an author who's such a stickler for historical accuracy in language I did find the repeated mentions of witch-burning rather odd, and I wondered about the plausibility of one main character's openly-avowed atheism and absolute disbelief in the supernatural, especially its being regarded by the other characters as regrettable and embarrassing in one's friend/father/associate but no worse.

4) About three-quarters of the way through, the book (somewhat suddenly, but not without foreshadowing) plunges into one of the worst het romances I have ever encountered in fiction. Straight up on the shelf that contains Jamaica Inn, The Bostonians and that one Georgette Heyer book I tried to read before running away in horror. I am not known as the world's greatest fan of Lucy Honeychurch/George Emerson, but if I wanted a reminder that 'I want you to have your own thoughts, even when I hold you in my arms' really was a pretty good and important thing for someone's male love interest to say, I clearly only had to read this. Mitigating things slightly, this isn't a romance novel, there's plenty of other interesting stuff in the book and the author is partially (though certainly not fully or with good priorities) aware that it's not a good thing. Aggravating things quite a lot, the plotline is resolved through a ridiculous melodramatic ending.

So what do I make of it on the whole? I don't know. It's a weird one. A deeply flawed book that ultimately doesn't work in saying what it wants to say, but possibly worth reading for the stuff you get along the way.

Ashenden; Or, The British Agent by W. Somerset Maugham (1927). I recently bought an omnibus of some of Maugham's lesser-known novels, and also Of Human Bondage has been on my list of things I really ought to read for a little while, and so naturally I next decided to pick up a book that's neither Of Human Bondage nor in the omnibus. Ashenden is a collection of short stories about a writer who becomes a secret agent during the First World War, closely based on the author's own experiences doing the same thing. It opens with a preface in which Maugham explains and defends his fictionalisation process: real life, and especially the real life of a spy, doesn't have the neat plots, full explanations of what happened and nicely-tied-up loose ends desirable in fiction, so some editing is necessary. There follow a series of stories about Ashenden's time as a spy in Switzerland, Russia and elsewhere, which are remarkably lacking in nicely-tied-up loose ends, neat plots and full explanations of what happened given that introduction. I suppose they're still neater than the real events that inspired them, but the endings definitely incline towards ironic twists and abrupt revelations of inefficacy and sometimes of tragedy that leave a lot of questions unanswered. Thrilling and dramatic spy stories these are not; the general mood is of half-resigned, half-amused cynicism about both the humorous, absurd little details of the spy's life and the horrific larger events in which he takes part (and Ashenden is complicit in some pretty bad actions over the course of the book). It would make an interesting comparison with John le Carré later in the century, probably. I didn't find the prose as enjoyably precise as in Cakes and Ale, there are a lot of comma splices, which I don't particularly remember in that book.
