So this made me gag:

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Seriously, gag. Joss = Buffy. The Kuzuis, as far as I can tell, = people who managed to glomm onto someone else's creativity and milk it obscenely far beyond their due. At the end of S7, on one of the commentaries, a writer (can't remember who?) talks about how much he loved working on Buffy, how much he loved Joss & the cast & crew & writers and adored how it was a project where everyone tried to contribute their best ... except for two people whose names were on every ep but had contributed nothing.

He didn't name names, but I, and I'm sure everyone else who watched Buffy and has listened to that commentary track, knew who he was talking about.

It's gross. The idea of "remaking" the movie is gross. The movie as is reminds me of looking at a five-year old's drawing of their family home -- the beloved universe is there, seen dimly, but the audience doesn't get access to much of it, not yet, and the artist misunderstands parts, too. The movie, as is, sucks. But it doesn't matter! What matters is that there were seven years after that where Joss & co got it right -- where they grew up and learned to draw.

(That metaphor is so done.)

Anyway, I'm angry about it. And going to write a letter to tell these dudes at Vertigo Entertainment how little I think of the idea. I want the Buffyverse that Joss & Jane & Doug made. I don't care about anyone else's take.

Of all the things to relaunch/remake (and they are digging deep), Buffy is maybe the worst idea ever. THE WORST. Especially the movie. Goddamn that movie was poor quality. I don't want people touching my show.

Yeah, this pissed me off when I saw it, too. Nothing about this is cool. Argh.

I foresee a lot of badmouthing (of the best kind, mind you) if/when they do this. The Buffy fans were never fond of the movie. A remake/reboot won't change that.

I foresee much mocking.
