never ever

In the new Found book, there are a bunch of letters to Adam Sandler which got sent to the wrong guy (same name, lives in Sandler's hometown), and OMFG, they cured me of ever writing fan mail. Again, I mean.

I've only done it once ... three months ago, and my co-worker/writer of gay sex extraordinaire (he's in the Canadian Book of Lists list re: most memorable sex scenes in CanLit!) did too, albeit to someone else much more worthy of slathering fandom. Ergo, D and I now regularly bitch about how we knew that we couldn't write letters requesting any kind of attention back., but that doesn't make it any better that they didn't reply.

I mean, we both sent them books. Doesn't that warrant a thank-you? Or, for D, a "OMG, this is great, let's make it into a movie starring me!"

I'm conflicted. But I don't really have any aspirations to be a starfucker, so it's just as well that my pouty Canadian celeb hasn't called.

Damnit.

Yeah, I think a gift warrants a thank you. And if the celeb is fearful of encouraging a stalker, well they could just send an thankyou via their agent or some other third party.

well, thank you.

*feeling self-righteous* I agree. And if it was Nathan, I'm pretty damn sure he would've dropped a line back. (It wasn't Nathan. I'm afraid that my love for him could boil into full-on obsession if I ever transmuted it into any kind of action.)

Speaking of Mr. Fillion, is that him in your avatar? And if so, where the hell did that pic come from? Were you standing underneath him onstage at a con?

In that case, I'm one step ahead of you down the lunacy road.

Yes, it is Mr Fillion. The pic is from A Film Maker's Journey on the UK version of the Serenity DVD. (As is this icon).

As for writing to celebs, I had the opposite experience from you. I attended a con where Charisma Carpenter was one of the guests. I think it may have been one of her first and she was very nervous but nice. So I wrote to her just to thank her for coming and give her a bit of encouragement (dear God, there's something about cons that turns me into these people's mother - you should have heard me with Sean Maher!) .. anyway, I didn't expect a reply, but I got a signed photo. Even if she never saw my letter and the photo came from her agent, I still appreciated the gesture and think more warmly of CC as a result.
