So, here's the thing - there is a lot of Star Trek fanfiction online right now! It is kind of overwhelming! Every night, when I double-check my delicious network bookmarks, there are almost a thousand new links.
It's like being at Starbucks and being overwhelmed with choices. It means I don't bookmark enough, because I am too busy reading everything and feeling like I am falling woefully behind.
So my recommendations are light on the ground this week, but this does not mean that there aren't five million new STXI fics to read. If you are feeling the opposite of what I am feeling -- that is, if you aren't getting enough -- go check the delicious feeds forthe Star Trek XI Kink Meme, and the Trek RPF Kink Meme. The mods for those lj comms have been using Delicious to bookmark the filled prompts, which is both smart and efficient... and contributing significantly to my sense of being overwhelmed. But in a good way! I am overwhelmed by awesome!

Anyway, I have decided to try something new with this week's fiction recommendations. I am grouping things by theme! because all of a sudden there's been this slew of kind of fantastic stories with het pairings where Bones is all about, um, taking care of the ladies, and I adore them all. And other unexpected themes have cropped up, too, in my reading of millions of stories.
---
First theme is stories in which Bones likes the ladies!
anonynonymouse wrote Jim Kirk's Limp Dick & Other Obstacles On The Path to Love and also Jim Kirk Is An Insufferable Idiot & Other Lessons Learned Along The Way, which is really the same story, except told from Christine Chapel's POV (the first one) and Bones' POV (the second one). (Despite his name being in both titles, Jim's the deus ex machina in these two stories, not a romantic participant.) God, I adored this set. In both (which spans pre-, during and post-movie), Bones & Christine end up working together, becoming friends, yielding to the attraction between them, going through crisis, and coming out the other side. Both are prickly, grumpy, driven competent people who love deeply and can't talk about it easily, and
anonynonymouse writes them so very, very well. You'll love Christine, and her Bones is my new fictional boyfriend. Because god. (McCoy/Chapel, NC-17, favourite)
sarka wrote Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson, in which Chekhov is turned into a girl, and desperately wants Bones. This was to fill the prompt "McCoy loves eating pussy. It is his goddamn happy place. He could spend hours down there without getting tired. And obviously, he's good at it. Women have to drag his head away, they're so exhausted." Seriously, do I have to tell you anything else? Ngggggghhh. (McCoy/Chekhov, genderfuck, NC-17, kink meme)
---
Second theme is things which are hilarious.
I adore this anonymous person who filled the Cake or Death prompt at the Kink Meme. (gen, drabble)
I also adore the anonymous person who wrote Warm Vanilla Milkshake, where Jim, um, likes the way Spock tastes. But Spock won't indulge him as often as Jim would like, and there's a handy replicator right over there on the wall, and no one will need to know, right? (Kirk/Spock, NC-17, slightly icky!)
barrowjane wrote off my lawn, for a prompter who wanted to see Spock & Kirk in their dotage, together. (Actually, the prompter said "old people are old! and that is awesome!".) (drabble, g)
cards_slash wrote Sexual Etiquette and the Primitive Response, where Spock learns about handjobs and is all "I can do that! I can do that spectacularly!" ... except no one told him that, um, the focus shouldn't be your partner's hands. (Spock/McCoy, R)
raphaela667 wrote Do Not Do Ballroom, where Winona and Sarek hit it off more than Jim expected, and he has to tell Spock that they're invited to the wedding. This was a kink meme entry, and I totally expected it to turn into a Star Trek version of "Stepbrothers" (and someone could still do that! i would happily read it!) but it didn't veer into Apatow territory. Instead it was just kind of awesome. (Kirk/Spock, Winona/Sarek, R)
---
Third and last theme is sometimes I like some angst in my sandwich!
annenburg is writing the crazy wip Of Convenience, which started out as a marriage-of-convenience plot, took a side-swipe at mPreg, made a side-stop at attempted forced conception by a Vulcan guest, and is now heading towards Pon Farr. When I say "crazy," I do not mean that there aren't heaping quantities of awesome! because there are! I don't know where this is going to end up, but I am enjoying the ride. (Kirk/Spock; NC-17; and no, the mpreg hasn't happened yet)
bravecows wrote The First Time, where two non-San Fran Academy Starfleet cadets talk about their possible futures. This is gonna make you do a double-take about the movie, kids, in a way you might find uncomfortable (especially if you are one of those people who didn't want to talk about how there weren't enough women doing stuff in the movie). In sum, the theme of this story is "too many Americans on the dance floor". (gen, original characters, brilliant)
classics_geek wrote Sealed With A Fragile Touch where Bones gets stuck in a time-dilation experiment, and Jim goes frantic trying to get him out. Hurt/comfort liek whoa. Seriously, Bones gets really sad and broken in this one (not physically, just emotionally); if that's not your cuppa, don't click. (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, established relationship)
keelywolfe wrote And The Years Went By, where it is Bones' birthday, and he and Jim have a totally fucked-up tradition. Except Jim can't make it, so he sends Spock. (Kirk/Spock/McCoy, side order of screwed-up Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
t_hy_la wrote Visions, in which Bones is precognitive, and knows the consequences if he doesn't get Jim onboard the Enterprise. (Think "Minority Report".) This is a very cool short fic, and I wish there was more. (gen)
vibishan wrote this untitled kink meme entry, in which Jim is desperately in love with Spock!Prime, because Spock!Prime loves him better than anyone else, and Jim's never had that kind of acceptance. Which is not to say that this isn't a PWP! because it is, even though Spock!Prime's, like, three hundred. (Which, whatever, Nimoy's still hot.) (Kirk/Spock, NC-17)

Coming up: picspam. Because my google reader bookmarks are now five zillion "oooo, Chris Pine is pretty" pictures, and they need to go somewhere else.
