Maureen Ryan publishes a review of SGU, in which she says she is disappointed.

Brad Wright comments, publicly, on a different review of Ryan's (for V, in which she references SGU). He probably doesn't realize that he comes across as condescending and rather without adequate argument.

Ryan responds to his comment with a thoughtful, considered, more in-depth discussion of SGU's shortcomings and what her hopes for it had been, and tells him not to worry about her talking about it again, because she's done.

I feel that Brad Wright is treating the word sexist like some people treat the word racist: that is, he's vehemently denying it applies to his work, not because it doesn't, but because he understands that people dislike things that are sexist.

IN SUM - SGU: a show I may frequently be found not watching. In fact, I can be found not watching it right now.

I haven't watched SGU yet. I don't get the Syfy channel and everything I read about it makes getting ahold of the episodes less and less worth my time. Is the voyeurism scene mentioned by Ryan the same scene as the "broom-closet scene" mentioned by Mallozzi? I'm sort of boggling that someone says "sexist" and he hears "I am morally opposed to depictions of physical intimacy on television." (Well, okay, not really, because the producers were just as faily when the skeevy race issues on SGA were brought up. But.)

(You should post your write-up at unfunnybusiness, by the way. Unless you're one of those morally opposed to the fandom_wank-esque comms, in which case I withdraw the suggestion.)

Unfunnybusiness is at journalfen.

It's founding principles are here.

I think the ideal is for it to be a place where people can post stuff that sounds like fandom_wank, but isn't actually funny because of racism, sexism and so forth. However, it ends up mostly being a place where people post news articles what made them crazy.

Anyway, this post of yours could be pretty much pasted verbatim over there. You don't really have to do a "write-up." (For example, this post is only one sentence.)
