Aug. 19th, 2007 04:31 pmIt's the long, dark tea-time of the soul, and I rented The 4400 to make up for my tragic lack of West Wing, only to discover that it sucks hard. "Well," I thought, "I understand why that was cancelled"... except it wasn't! It's still on! WTF! The plot development's purposely hand-wavy ("I've eliminated 24 of the 37 suspects for reasons you don't care about"), the writing bites, often medical advice/opinion offered is just incorrect ("coma victims never regain consciousness without cause") and the most memorable acting came from day-players who were there for only one episode.
Maybe it gets better in the second season, but I just don't care. I could feel myself getting stupider as I watched it.
I don't remember if I could happily watch dumb tv before Joss Whedon and Aaron Sorkin, but I certainly can't now.
