Early reports (unconfirmed) say that Joanna Russ is dead. Earlier reports from 2 days ago had her admitted to a hospice after a series of strokes.

Does anyone know anything definitive?

I love Russ' writing. In many ways, she shaped my thinking as a feminist academic and a feminist SF/F fan. Her book, How to Suppress Women's Writing,
electrified me. (And this essay by cupidsbow, applying Russ' book to fanfiction, is exceptional.)

In sum, she was a fabulous mind, and I'm very sorry if she's gone.

Thanks! Had heard the news before anyone had written anything definitive. Social media may have evolved to the point where news travels too fast. (Unsurprisingly, xkcd already noticed this and made a comic strip about it.)
