I just handed out awards to highschool students who won a poetry contest!

Although I was inspired to think snarky things -- even the best highschool poetry can't avoid the emo, it seems -- the kids were just so excited and happy that I can't write them down. They were awesome and I am not going to be mean.

Also, one of the featured (non-highschool) poets who read made me want to claw out my ears, so I'm feeling somewhat fond towards the 16 year olds with berets.

I have a new category! I read a lot of news stories this week about people being heroic, courageous or just down right gosh darn awesome, so they get their own section.

Four things!

Second, although it's already been recc'd up down and all around town, the Star Trek reboot fic So Wise We Grow by captanddeaster is wonderful. Spock receives word that his son survived the destruction of Vulcan. Spock knows he doesn't have a son. Third, Sue (30toseoul) has been posting excellent compilations of her favourite fandomsecrets contributions. Her journal is flocked, but she friends back most everyone. You can see her fandomsecrets compilations here: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

IN SUM: being in fandom is never ever boring. Also, Merlin is pretty and one of the scriptwriters needs to make him say "as you wish" SOON.
